2-12" (Delta LFA's) O15TB, bass cab version

#1 Post by David Homer »

Some of you have followed this project a bit through some other threads here, but tonight I put this cab through its first gig...

First impression was "holy s***!" I have gigged these same two Deltas for years in vented cabs, and I thought I had a pretty decent tone... see what I get for thinking. The difference is night and day folks. The Omni has so much more punch and presence, if I didn't build these myself I would have argued those were not the same woofers.

Went 600W bridge mode (DCM600) with it, and I think it handled it relatively well. On my front porch w/less wattage I turned down the midranges on the preamp (solid state BBE Bmax). At the club I pretty much returned those midranges to original position. Rolling the bass knob up from 2 to 3 introduced some pretty meaty whump. The midhorn obviously added an incredible amount of definition. For the first time ever, "Gimme Three Steps" wasn't lost in the din...

There was a hint of distortion, but it sounded more like overdriven tubes than speaker "farts". Pretty much had the same thing when I ran the Deltas in vented cabs, so I wasn't too concerned. Almost hate to think what this thing would sound like if I ever upgraded to 3012LF's..

After the frst set all I could think about was how in hell I played music nearly 30 years without this cab... Still want to play w/the EQ some more, and possibly tweak my highpass filter (I use a Harrison Labs FMOD-Sub set at 35Hz).. Count me as one very satisfied builder...
