New to Forum

#1 Post by DJ Chillnite »

First let me say hello to all and thanx in advance for the help. Here my info, a mobile DJ who plays dance music, speakers that I have are regular pa type 12inch 2way tops/18inch bass reflex cabs. Amp rack has 15 amp power conditioner(crate pro audio), 31 band(dual channel) eq(berhinger), sonic maximizer(bbe), 2/3/4way crossover(dbx),qsc 1450 amp(mid and highs)peavey cs-800 amp(the original design from the 1970's)for bass. My question is speakers for my setup, I have read about dr's tops/tuba and titan subs. I still would like to get some input, crowd size range from 100 to 350 folks. Small but loud, something that I can build on(add more cabs if need to). Also all thumbs here but willing to try to build something in the near future.

Otop 12's, Dr200's. T30, T39 or T48. A pair of each.
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

I concur with this, except forget the T30. Stick with the Titans, whichever you have the pack space for. If you can handle the size, build T48s, if not, T39s.

+2...
I'm also a mobile DJ and DR200's and T48's are my final decision. (although 2~4 T18's are holding down the low end nicely for now... :D )
Built so far:
AutoTuba. TAT, T18, T30, T39, SLA, SLA Pro, DR200, Omni 12TB, Omni 12 Sub, Omni 10.5,

I know you are, but I can't recommend the T18s for Pro sound. My T39s are great, but I bet the T48s are much better.

I don't think there is much difference in sound between the T48 and T39. I certainly don't miss the 5Hz.
Built:
6xDR200, 2xT39, 2xT48, 2xJack110, 1xOmni10.5, 1xAutotuba, 1xT18, 1xSLA Pro, 1xW8, 1xW10

Not much difference in the sound, but with the displacement advantage of the 3015LF versus that of the 3012LF a pretty fair difference in output capability with very little difference in build cost. I'd go T39 if pack space is at a premium, T48 if it isn't.

OP, I had the same dilemma and settled on T48.

My subs are housed in the trailer. They have to be trailered to all gigs.
The 4" larger T48 footprint depth is negligible.
The 9" taller T48 height in the trailer is also a non-factor.
Build cost and labor for either, is a complete non-factor.

For my needs, the displacement and low frequency extension advantages of T48 were the deciding factors.
The smaller size of T39 has no benefit for my situation.
My biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my toys for what I said I paid for them.
