Setting Limiter which OHM Rating do I use?

EQ guys are using on their cabs/systems. A good starting place if you don't have your own RTA.

Setting Limiter which OHM Rating do I use?

#1 Post by DaRealAce »

I understand how to calculate watts from volts and ohms. I also understand on how to set the limiter. Although I am confused about the fact I know the cabs are 8 ohms and when you add the cabs to the tuba design it adds 4 more ohms leaving you w/ 12 ohms.

Which ohm rating do I use when calculating watts? ie 50 volts= 50 (squared) divided by 8 = 312 watts
50 volts= 50 (squared) dived by 12 = 208 watts

Also another question while I am at it, what are some recommended settings for attack (in ms), hold, and decay times for the limiter? (Its a BBE DS24) which will playing playing all prerecorded music, nothing live. Using an HPF of Buttworth 24dB/Octave at 35hz. And for a LPF of a 24dB/Octave filter at 92hz.

This post is in regard to two tuba 30's w/ the 4012ho driver.

There has been some debate on this point. I use the total impedence method = driver impedence + cabinet impedence. In your case that would be 12 ohms.
Builds:
T-39
DR 280
Wedgehorn 8
Omni 12
SLA
TAT
TLAH experimental

Use the driver's rating for a greater margin of safety.
