OTop-12's
OTop-12's
I finished a pair of oTop-12's and fired them up last night. 3012HO, melded array. I'll be using them tonight at my gig and will post a more complete review with pics then. Although all I did was run a little pink noise and auto eq outside, then played a few minutes of minuets of music first softly then at war volume. There truly aren't enough words to describe these little boxes. It's truly hard to believe the clarity and volume. Heck, I built the things, hooked them up, and ran the board and I barely believe it. Incredible.
Re: OTop-12's
I'd like to know how you feel the melded array stand up to the 3012ho. To me (on paper), it seems that its a bit overkill over the piezos. Can they keep up with such a driver?
have fun.

Re: OTop-12's
Here's some of the comments I got from the gig:
"incredible"
"awsome"
"Those speakers are incredibly bright"
"Everything is so clear"
"fantastic"
"Those speakers really sing"
The smiles started as soon as we started loading the gear. They got bigger when we started setting up. When it came time for tear down, everyone in the band was wearing an ear to ear grin. My goal was simply to get smaller and lighter gear. What I got was a PA system that I could never afford to buy. These speakers have exceeded my expectations in every category, were easier to build than I thought, and simply sound fantastic. And loud, OMG can they get loud.
I bet I could easily do with one of these wide T39s corner loaded to the pair of Otops for most typical bar gigs.
I did use both the HP and LP filters.

Re: OTop-12's
"She Who Must Be Obeyed" has decreed that there will be no building any more of "those *expletive deleted* speakers" until I finish paying for the these. I guess I spent a little too much time in the shop last week...
As soon as the smoke clears a little, I've got the plans for an Omni-15 waiting on me. I'm really, really tired of lifting my 4x12 black widow bass cabinet...

Re: OTop-12's
Once my wife heard my Tuba 24 pair, she immediately forgave me for the weekends spent in the shop. She wants an AutoTuba for her car too.

It's a conspiracy

Re: OTop-12's
A Sofa Tuba? That's really not such a bad idea from a space saving standpoint. Considering the wasted space under most sofas. For permanent installations only... it would be pretty heavy if the speaker is made integral with the sofa and most sofas are heavy enough already. So not such a good idea from a weight consideration standpoint...

Re: OTop-12's
It could be done pretty easily, a pair of TTs end to end is the right length for a 5 footer, you could use more for a sectional.wallywally wrote:My wife is content coming to shows and sitting on my t-39's![]()

Re: OTop-12's
If you had money to burn, you could have a car upholstry shop cover them in tuck-n-roll, diamond tuck, or a multitude of other padded designs. It aint cheap, though.
