Titans and O-Tops

#1 Post by oneplaybass »

Did our first show with all BFM fronts last night. We've been using and loving the 30" T-48s for a couple months now.
2 OTop 115s with melded array made their debut last night. No doubt the best we've ever sounded!!
I've tried to add a picture of them, but the site is telling me "sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached"
We're a 3 piece band with a female singer. We do mostly classic rock and country. I run the sound from the stage so simplicity is important. I cross the Titans @ 100hz and we get a good sound check before we start so we keep ongoing adjustments to a minumum. It helps that me and the guys have been together for over a decade and know not to play with settings during the show. (yeah, right!) With the BFM's we sound cleaner and punchier than some bands with much more equipment and sound guys and so on..I don't enjoy that at all!
Anyway, thanks to Bill for the designs and so many on this board for sharing their experience and knowledge. I don't post alot, but I've been reading and learning a bunch!

Hey, that's great! Just wondering, did those in the audience comment on the sound at all?
Try again with the pics.

My fault, changed the wrong settings, please try again. We don't see many OmniTop 15's.

Yes, several regulars were asking about the "little boxes on the stands" My wife is my sound consultant during our shows.. All were very impressed. I knew it from our first song during sound check, my bass (upper range) and the guitar sound was great.
I'll try to post some pics when I get to my laptop this afternoon

I know the Otop 15 aren't talked about as much as the Otop12 and if I were buying all new, I would have built 12's as well. I happen to have some 15's laying around and wanted to use them. They are much lighter than our old speakers (Peavey SP2G's) and out perform them as well. I'm very satisfied with them so far!!

More pics of the OT's. If I didn't know better I would've sworn those were DR's from the front!

There's not much in it between the two but the 15's certainly have a better response between 100-200 and 1100-3500 but has a big dip from 3500-8000. (note the Y scale is only over 20 dB so it looks a little exaggerated)

BTW, they look great. Nice and clean with an industrial grill look.

Something ain't right. The 3500-8000 is in the piezo range, so they should be very close. If anything I'd expect the 15 to be a bit better due to the added piezo elements. Maybe one is on-axis and the other off-axis?

The OmniTop 12 has a flat Piezo array where the OmniTop 15 is melded, so the On-Axis response of the 12 is indeed higher as you say. It should note that in the description.

I must also add that I was a skeptic of the buck 50 piezos.... BUT I sealed them with hot glue like the plans and put in the filter and must say for fellow doubters that these cabs with the 20 piezo melded array can make your ears bleed pretty much at will....I also like the even dispersion over my old cabs with cd's and horns..For us we're almost always right on the dance floor and wide coverage is a big plus in my book!

Looking good Oneplay, but while we're taking pics, how about a few more of the Titans? I've become a Titan fanatic in a short amount of time after running my single at a gig.
