Far out! The Omni 12.

#1 Post by Harley »

I've just fired up my O12 driven by a WT550 amp and a 4str Stingray and then a 5str BTB

All I cans say is Faaaaarrrrr........OUT!

What a great cab, so so clear and yet punchy but when you hit those low notes with the volume turned up, this rig rattles your testicles at 50 paces!!

This will make an excellent keyboard cab because of the tweeter. I noticed that he tweeter makes the sound a bit thin for bass but I cut my treble down on the bass, run the mid knob flat and boosted the bass a tad past flat. The O12 also will bring out any fretting noise so you have to clean up your intonation which is a good thing anyhow.

Man this thing sounds awesome and it's not even broken in yet.

I compared it to my O15 ( woofer and mid driver only ) and the O15 is obviously just that bit more powerful at the bottom end. You have to adjust your settings switching from the cab to get the right sound of course.

But if you like to get pure punchy mid sound with tons of growl, then the O12 is the ticket. Gosh, I love this cab.

Now I have to go and pacify my neighbours!

So do you prefer it over your O15? Thanks!

Prefer? - not necessarily as both are awesome cabs.

What impressed me about the O12 was its punchiness but I had to spend a lot of time EQ'ing this for my electric bass to get the right sound. I had the tweeter installed which is something I personally would not recommend for elect bass which made it sound a bit 'honky'( as in horn) when run flat.

The O15 sounds a wee bit different ( no tweeter ) and of course is louder. It required less playing with EQ to get the sound I wanted. The O12 is more prtable and weighs less than the O15 so the O12 will suit those with small muscles, over 40 y/o or small vehicles.

I would take either of these cabs to a gig and be happy with them.

In terms of sound quality, the DR is of course the cleanest sound you'll ever get on elect bass, but I found some people ( other musos and some soundmen ) have their mindset wrapped around std radiator 410s and 115s and the like so the O12/O15 seem to suit their taste.

So having the O12, O15, DR250 and DR280 for altogether less than the price of a good quality 410/115, I can pick and choose whichever for what suits me on the day.

The DR/T24 combo is even more awesome and I'm building a T39 soon plus just finishing an O12.

These are all for demos and I will invite several pro-bass players to review these for my web site soon as I intend to market these to the bass player market in NZ and Aust.
