Question: Plate Amp suppliers in the UK?

#1 Post by Dan_S »

As I near the end of constructing the T18 I've been working on, given how it will be used in conjunction with a pair of SLAs by people who want a 'no-nonsense' approach to this 2.1 system, can anyone recommend any good plate amps available in the UK, and/or any good dealers?

I've been looking around the dealers I've used for components before, and none of them sell amps other than your standard rackmount power amps. I've been looking at the Keiga designs that also power 2 satellite speakers, which would be perfect for this application.

The Keiga KG-3100 used to be available on Madisound (http://www.madisound.com/catalog/produc ... cts_id=369), but they're out of stock at the time of writing this message. Plus, shipping it from the USA over here could prove quite costly, as I've experienced before.

I've also seen O Audio's BASH amps, but they appear to be more specifically targeted at just powering a sub.

If I have missed a previous topic on this, I apologise. Thanks in advance for anyone's help!

Kind Regards,

Dan

I would have thought..

...would be more than enough. 600 Watts sounds a little excessive.

For a T18 I'd say this one would be adequate.

Yeah Chris I think its 600W into 2 Ohms and 450W into 4, probably 300W into 8

Plus the thing that got it for me is a) smaller surface area, less to seal b) lightweight, I have had lots of heavy gear over the years, cant put up with it any more.

You could go with a used separates 5.1 preamp/5 channel amp setup. Route L/R preamp RCA outs on the preamp to the appropriate amp input channel, then route the sub out to one of the other channels. Connect the speakers to their appropriate amp output and that should do it. (props to Frankenspeakerz for turning me on to this idea).
