melded array gluing jig tip

#1 Post by Tom O'Shea »

Gluing melded arrays on the right angle jig is easy, unless, like me, you tend to get the waxed paper or plastic wrap you're using as a barrier between jig and array stuck between two otherwise nicely glued piezos. If I didn't manage this EVERY time, it wouldn't be a problem.

So with the current array, I covered the jig with carton-sealing tape. You know, the 2-inch (50 mm?) stuff to close up boxes for shipping. Works great and cheap, too.

Great tip! I tend to have the same problem with wax paper, and not just when gluing piezos.

David, for the love of all that is good, DO NOT tell us where you get your wax paper stuck.

Some things are better left alone.

Alright, wiseguy! I should have known that I couldn't get by on ambiguities. For your information, I was talking about the wax paper that never wants to stay in place when I'm gluing panels together with PL. :)

I found it was helpful in many cases to shoot some small temporary stops along the lines where panels meet - for example the vertical braces in the front of the Titan. I first wrapped these in wax paper, next time I couldn't find any around the house and grabbed some saran wrap. This works much better, it will stick when you wrap it around something. After the glue sets I pop the stops off.

If that's the equivalent of what we call 'Glad Wrap', http://www.glad.com.au/demos/demo_11.html that's what I use...and it works a treat.
