So I'm finished building my first Tuba24 - took it to a gig in the raw plywood state and it sounded AWESOME! All our dancers and musicians were very impressed. Brought it home, rounded the edges, spackled, and sanded and I'm ready to apply the Duratex. But I'm concerned about how the Duratex will stick to places where there are globs of hot glue, globs of PL, and traces of PL. (By "traces" I mean places where I wiped off the wet PL with a thinner-soaked rag.)
When I installed panel 11 (the reflector), I globbed on a lot of PL because things were a little bit out of square and I wanted to make sure it sealed. I also have my wiring running through panel 11 and they are sealed with hot glue where they go through the panel. I could try to scrape off the excess PL around the edges, but am afraid to mess with the hot glue because I don't want to lose the seal.
Will the roller grade Duratex stick to these materials? Or should apply something else first, maybe some flat black spray paint or something?
Any advice would be much appreciated - thanks!
Duratex vs. PL?
Re: Duratex vs. PL?
Achrytech advises a coat of latex flat over contaminated areas. On the outside of the cab, sand with 60 grit. It will make the PL rough enough for the Duratex to grip.

My own experience with Duratex and PL has been that, if I rough up the PL with sandpaper and don't try to apply in sub-50 temperatures, it sticks OK. I had one real bad experience with Duratex not sticking (even to the wood), and I learned later that it was all due to me applying in cold temps and putting on too thick a coat and not letting it dry thoroughly before re-applying. On my second time around, I followed all the guidelines, and it worked beautifully!
