I hope these aren't really dumb questions. I did a few searches and couldn't find the answers. (And I'm spending enough time and money on this project that I want to be sure to get it right the first time!)
I'm building a pair of Tuba24s with BP102s. The instructions suggest 3/16" bolts and T-Nuts. Okay so far...
My BP102s have a sort of cardboardy gasket on both sides of the mounting flange. I assume this is so the driver can be mounted from the front or the back of the baffle. Since I am going to be mounting the "face" of the driver to the baffle, I'm guessing I want to remove the gasket on the "back" side (magnet side) of the flange so I have a solid surface for the screw heads, right?
The screw holes are a kind of odd shape, so I'm wondering what kind of screws work best, and whether flat washers and/or lock washers are recommended. I'm thinking hex head screws and a magnetic screwdriver might work well for reaching around on the far side of the driver in that awkward little space. But hex heads are kinda small, so again I'm wondering about washers.
I'm also worried about vibration. Do mounting screws ever vibrate loose? Do I want to use lockwashers or Locktite?
And that cardboardy gasket: is that sufficient? Looks a little iffy to my admittedly inexperienced eye, especially how it thins out around the screw holes. I ordered a couple of rolls of that gasket caulk rope from Parts Express. Should I use that, and if so... how???
Thanks in advance for your help (and patience)!
Driver mounting questions
Re: Driver mounting questions
I would recommend not using Loctite. You are almost sure to spin the T or H nuts if you try to remove the bolts.drum365 wrote:I'm also worried about vibration. Do mounting screws ever vibrate loose? Do I want to use lockwashers or Locktite?
What I do for washers is to use 1/4" nyloc nuts upside down, when using 10-24 bolts, or #10 wood screws. It works nice, you wouldn't have to touch the paper gasket. I can take some pics if it's unclear what I mean.

Good point about the Locktite - I hadn't thought about that!
I think I understand about the nylock nuts. You've got the base of the nut up against the head of the screw, and the rounded part (that has the nylon ring inside) fitting against the flange? Interesting!
I would carefully peel the gasket off the side you are not using, and hot glue it to the side you are bolting down. Glue it gasket to gasket, flip the driver over and add weight.

Yes, that's correct.drum365 wrote:I think I understand about the nylock nuts. You've got the base of the nut up against the head of the screw, and the rounded part (that has the nylon ring inside) fitting against the flange? Interesting!
