I recommend to use an Xti 4000 for 4 DR280's.
I use a 4000 on my 4 dr300 mid's and it only just does the job I rekon. Setting up gain structure I couldn't get it to do much more than 45v per channel before onset of clipping.

IMO, it's never a bad idea to have a larger amp powering your speakers. A bigger amp can always be limited to protect drivers and it's generally over-engineered in terms of power supply and output capacity so it should handle voltage irregularities, high temps, etc. better than an amp just capable of meeting the output requirements. If you do go bigger, make sure you've got limiting in place to protect the drivers.Dave Non-Zero wrote:Im really interested in these xti amps, and im wonderin if an xti 1000 is enough to run 4 dr280s? (500wpc @4ohms) or do i need the larger xti2000? (800wpc @4ohms) I want to be able to get the max out of them because ill be doing a couple of outside gigs this summer. As for crowns not breaking. ive had a crown K2 fail on me.

Thanks for that. I keep forgetting that the rated power figures I generally keep in my head or care about are the lower distortion figures and the amp can still generate more even if it's at 1% or higher distortion.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote:Or if you don't. Almost any amp can put out at least twice its rated power long enough to toast a driver.gdougherty wrote: If you do go bigger, make sure you've got limiting in place to protect the drivers.
K2s had some cooling problems if I remember. They are convection cooled and ran very hot. Super quiet however. I know plenty of Crown owners. Most haven't had problems. Keep in mind I run them very hard at times and have had them for a good number of years. I still have 2 DC300s and 1 DC150A Series 2 in perfect working order!!Dave Non-Zero wrote:Im really interested in these xti amps, and im wonderin if an xti 1000 is enough to run 4 dr280s? I am currently running an XTi2000 for 2 Dr280's. I am very confident that it would have no problem running 4 280's. I was originally looking at the XTi1000 until I started looking @ the power consumption specifications. The XTi2000 and 4000 appear to be far more efficient. Total power consumption was a consideration for me and was why I chose the 2000 over the 1000.Dave Non-Zero wrote:Im really interested in these xti amps, and im wonderin if an xti 1000 is enough to run 4 dr280s?
