Metal grill demand

#1 Post by coyoteboy »

Hi folks.

I'm still in the planning stage for my omni build(s), and will likely be doing a perf grill for the fronts. I have the means and tools to cut and bend grills to size, including exact bolt/fastener hole locations for the finer grill sizes. I think I can get a good rate for powder coating as well from a local sprayer affiliated with the shop I work at.

I just figured, if I was doing this for myself, there might be others in need of such, and it's just as easy to cut and bend ten or twenty as a couple.

Realize that this is not a for-profit enterprise, and I haven't yet determined a per unit cost, I just thought I'd throw it out there and see who pipes up.

I'm located in Modesto, which is central California, USA, and I'll have a look at shipping as well.

thoughts, suggestions, questions are welcome.

Andrew

My big concern for a mass run of grills is the "margin of deviation" between individual builders. It would be a benefit for builders doing 8 or 10 cabs at time, but I don't know how it would work out for me, building what I can, when I can. But the suggestion is greatly welcomed nonetheless! :D :D :D

On my OT15's, I'm cutting the grills from the grills on the cabs I pulled the woofers from. I plan on using the expanded metal grills I've got for the woofers and the finer perf stuff for the tweets to keep the naysayers at bay.
I'm not a musician, but I play one in a band.

It would not be a "mass run" of grills. I would require close measurements for each grill ordered, though I suppose inside H x W + bend depth would be sufficient. I've found 67% open and 70% open area in the catalogue.

16 ga. ok?

McNichols has a warehouse in Hayward. This is an easy drive from Modesto, and will save you a ton of bux on shipping. It is cheaper for me to trailer down from Sacramento, than paying the shipping.
My biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my toys for what I said I paid for them.

thanks for the link, bgavin.

we usually get our perf from Diamond metals out of Visalia, and I might get away from paying shipping if I tag onto an existing order, only problem with that is we don't order perf very often. I still have to do some price checking.

We actually have some cool SS perf, but it's only about 50% open area.

BTW, I sure wouldn't mind trucking up some time to check out any BF builds you have lying around. Be nice to see and hear first hand.
