OmniTop 12 w/Delta Pro 12 A's Straight Array

#1 Post by Ron K »

I finally had a chance last weekend to try out the new tops. I painted them with Textured Patio Furniture Paint. Still waiting for the Duratex to arrive.

Here's a few pics after I brought them back. Forgot the Camera before the job. My mind was elsewhere.

1 Stand easily supports 2 ...................................... Single on Stand

First two with # 3 unfinished.

All have the Necked Horn with the full grill and Steel Top Hats.
These 2 are straight arrays with Delta pro 12s.
The next two are cross fired arrays with Delta Lites and the last 2 will be straight arrays with the pro 12s.

They really sounded quite good. Very smooth and very clean. They easily reached the levels I was looking for and required very little EQ. Sweetest sounding live box I've heard in awhile. Reminded me of a Nexo Line I mixed on once. The detail was stunning to say the least. Our Mandolin and Acoustic Guitars just jumped out in the mix with separation very easy to attain. The Lead Guitar was loud and clear in in your face anywhere in the room. Tom fills had attack and tons of presence. The kick was slammin in the mid bass region and my W's were actually struggling to stay in the mix!!!!

Vocals Vocals Vocals!!! We are a very harmony oriented band and this is where the box shined. With the instruments being so forward I was afraid the vocals wouldn't cut through. The cab did not disappoint here. I could hear their breaths in between passages!! I thought holy crap they are gonna go toast in 3 songs this is too good to be true.

I tried to but I simply couldn't find a real flaw. For a DYI box this is a real gem! Can't wait till I have the 6 (maybe even 8 ) done and 8 T39 bottoms and 4 T24 bottoms! If the bottoms are even 1/2 as good as this box I'll will consider my self already in Heaven!

Next time I use them I'll be sure to take some live photos. Hopefully I'll have at least the 4. This time of year we scale back our bookings so I have build time. I will need to finish by early spring so hopefully by then I'll have some full system photos.

How did you attach the two boxes together?

Interlocking corners. 16 in a bag for $6.00. They actually lock in pretty good. You could add latches if you wanted. In this case the stands are Ultimate Support and very sturdy. You have to hit them pretty hard to make them sway so I wouldn't be too scared to throw up 2 on one stand.

I've got pretty much the same and considered even doing 3 on a stand but I have ratchet straps I throw around mine in addition to the interlocking corners just in case. Mine are also all Deltalite loaded so 3 would be 105lbs on a stand rated for 150lbs. They are a great little design, glad to hear they're working so well.

Ron,
Where did you get those grills and what was the cost? They look different than the usual stuff...

Cheers

Nice!! So, they weigh in at 35 lbs a piece? Do yours also weigh the same Ron?
It's not the SPL output I worry about, it is the SPSL output!

Eminence's website is having problems right now for viewing speaker details, but The Delta 12A's magnet alone is a full 6lbs heavier than that of the Deltalite. They'd be close, but heavier.

Those are the bend it yourself 6mm grills from Dayton available from parts express. I Pkg. contains enough to bend grills for 4 O-Top 12's. Since I have a 4' metal shear and break I chose the bend it yourself route.

It's basically the same stuff you get from PennFab here on the east coast.

As far as the weight goes the Pro 12 A is 16.3 lbs per driver. The Delta Lites are 5.1 lbs per driver so a difference of 11 lbs. I had the Pro 12s as spares that were never used. I still have 12 of them in service in wedges and some old Community M-80s.Saw no good reason not to use them up.

I hadn't weighed them to date but when I go to work tomorrow I'll place one on a freight scale and report the actual cabinet weight. From past experience I'm guessing around 40 lbs per box.
