Melded Arrays

#1 Post by LelandCrooks »

Here you go, first look. Built for me by Les, as I could not have finished in time for the sub shootout. There will be listening tests after, and I really wanted an up to snuff 250 there.

Thanks Les. These things look hard.

Looks cool but complicated! Do we know if the DR250 plans have been updated to include the melded array?
Dave

Built:
- Omni 10 (S2010 + piezo array)
- 2 x DR250 (DL II 2510 + melded array)
- 2 x Titan 39 (BP102 - 14"W)
- 2 x Titan 39 (3012LF - 20"W)
- 4 x DR200 (Delta Pro 8B + melded array)

Coupla days ago. There's really not any change to the plans, except the addition of how to build and install these. Because of the difficulty, the default is still the original array.

Thanks for posting the pics and the kind words Leland. These are more difficult than any of the other array types but well worth it by the charts. If you take your time and have the right tools, anyone can do it, but some real woodworking tools are needed IMO unless you have a very good handsaw, the knowledge and patience to use one, and a good understanding of miter boxes.

Otherwise you need a miter saw. :)

and i wouldn't want to do too much without a tablesaw :)

My best friend while stripping a bunch of short wires, don't go for the cheap ones though, use Ideal, my pair has been serving me faithfully since the 80's

Strippers
Yep, they work great when you don't leave them somewhere

I have some of those and two or three regular wire strippers. None of them could be found :x

Whoh!!! I have just 8 little tweeters...and maybe a buzz in one of them. looks like I came to the wrong place to complain! Those look like a bear to wire-up, let alone to make. Beautiful job tho!

I think I have a little rattle in one of my tweets, and was dreading going into the speaker cavity to ID it and swap out the element. I feel a lot better about it after looking at these puppies ;-)

I often use the Bic lighter & fingernail method for stripping lighter gauge wires.
