Which Eminence 18" Pro PA

#1 Post by djlivex »

I am just curious what 18" Eminence is used for the Simplexx 18 Pro PA version before I buy the plans? Will be using a single sub for DJ reinforcement for bigger 200-300 crowd indoors. Thanks in advance.

The preferred T/S spec range for the driver is Fs 28 to 38Hz, Qts .28 to .40, Vas 200 to 400L, xmax 8mm or more. Recommended drivers are the Dayton Audio Pro Odeum 18F, PRV Audio 18SW2200v2, Eminence Kappa Pro 18LF, LaVoce SAF184.02 and Celestion TSQ 1845.

Not related to your question, but curious why you want to build the "easier" SLA sub when it loks like you have experience building the horn loaded ones?

I just bought out of the blue a new 18" Blastking Pro woofer
Fs-35
Re 5.1 ohm
Qts .35
Qes .38
Vas 230
BL 24.2 Tm
Mms 185 gr.
Xmax 6.0 mm
I plan to use this woofer since lying around bought new last year at a speaker shop here in Tampa. Just a sub added to my Tallboy 12 or JBL Control 5 monitors since it will be a small rectangular venue 15' x 40' hall with 80-100 people invited just small added omph! What do you guys think? I also have a lot of 18 mm BB precut sheets from Woodworker Store want to use those Ill have to make the adjustments. Thanks

6mm xmax isn't very good. It limits you to 350w.

If you want to go all out there's the LaVoce SAF184.03. 13mm xmax allows it to take 1,000w.

Too much money for 184.03, was just planning on adding a little oomph on the dance floor, I can use one side of Crest 7001 amp. For the parties I do I have horn loaded system from BFM can handle 300 people. Wish Bill would design 80-20kHz Synergy Horn like Danley with a woodworker to deal with CNC horn pieces. B&C 1.4 Coaxial driver in the middle of the horn, 2 x 10"neo, 4 x 6.5" neo stacked 2 on top of each other cab to cover outdoors 1000 + festivals. Any idea Bill? :idea,

IMO they don't offer any benefit over DRs, and with the number of drivers are considerably more expensive.

Power is a concern / priority? I thought output was dictated by cab design and Sd x Xmax?

Lavoce:
Maximum Linear Excursion (Xmax) 13mm
Surface Area of Cone (Sd) 1225cm²

= 15,925

PRV:
Maximum Linear Excursion (Xmax) 12.5mm
Surface Area of Cone (Sd) 1290cm²

= 16,125

Too slight a difference to matter.

I was going to point that out and forgot.

With THOSE stats so close, higher power means higher output? I thought the beauty of the whole line of BFM *horns* was that they didn't NEED high powered drivers? I'm not arguing: I'm trying to clarify for myself.

(Also, is there a term for the product of Xmax x Sd?)

Higher power only equals higher output if there's enough Vd to make use of it. The OP is asking about the Simplexx 18, which isn't horn loaded.
