T39 Initial Impressions

#1 Post by Joman116 »

Some background. I'm a small scale mobile DJ. I generally run two active tops (RCF ART 712A MK5) . The only Subs I've owned in the past were a single ev ekx 18SP, then upgraded to ev etx 18sp. I ended up selling as utility was low and was taking too much footprint space in storage at my house.

I read about BFM designed subs well over a decade ago and was very intrigued by them. I just didn't have the time nor the space at that moment in life to build them myself. Fast forward now to 2025 I Revisited my dream. Still didn't have the bandwidth to build, so searched around for a used pair.

I was contemplating between the tuba 30 versus the Titan 39 for quite some time. Talked with alot of fellow members for insight (thank you, you guys know who you are). While I am predominantly playing prerecorded music as a DJ, I did some testing in audacity with the genre of music I play , rolling off frequencies below 40hz (where the t39 doesn't really perform, but the t30 still does). Realized it wasn't as much of a deal breaker as I thought. The t39 also has an amazing form factor : smaller footprint, whilst being taller and having casters. Makes moving it around super easy and pack out in my Suv a breeze.

Fortunately was able to score 2x 20" t39 (has KappaLITE 3012LF 12" drivers) accompanied by qsc plc 1804 amp, dba driverack 260 Speaker management, all associated cables. Complete turnkey.
The qsc 1804 amp is very robust and allows flexibility. It easily powers the super efficient t39 on one channel (BOTH of them! Its 900w per channel, and the KappaLITE 3012LF drivers take about 400w each).

I have these temporarily set up in my garage, so there is a "room gain factor".

So what are my thoughts?
WOW..with such little power these qty 2 T39's are THUMPING. It's quite insane. Less than 1/4 and everything starts shaking. Had my neighbor come over and cranked to 1/2 and he felt pain in his chest. HAH! Don't know what the limits of these are yet. the DBA already has the gain structure set up..but I need to see from the AMP side what the max is..

I still have work to do..cosmetic clean up, replace casters, tweak the DBA Driverack settings. These are really neat and I have plans to build a few more.
