Speaker repair

#1 Post by Keryn O'Shea »

Good morning Lads,
This Turbosound IQ15 driver was advertised as faulty, so l bought it hoping it was a recone, however the inner part of the magnet has shifted and is pinching the coil. How would this happen, can this be rectified, and is it worth the trouble?

That's not anything I've ever seen before, so your guess is as good as mine. But, I'd assume if you can get it outta there, you might be able to remove old adhesive residue (wire wheel maybe?) and glue it back it using shims to center it. Worth a try, I'd think.

Another thought... Before Music Tribe (Behringer) acquired Turbosound, they were a reputable company. There's a chance they may just replace it if you reached out to them with a photo.

Me neither!
After an hour sitting in the sun l tried prying the magnet off, and it wasn't the glue holding it onto the frame, it was magnetic force! It came right off :)

Dang, do you know if this driver was made before then? I had trouble finding it's Theile parameters. Looking to load it into an O15TB

Without factory equipment it's impossible to fix as you won't be able to center the pole piece while new adhesive sets.

Bugger.. ok.
I'm going to try repair it, being a mechanic I'll have trouble leaving it alone, or throwing it out before having a go.
This alignment shim is 0.0866", or 2.2mm.

It's made from a plastic plant pot :), which by magical coincidence is size it needed to be, it's only just able to be removed by hand once the frame & magnet are brought together.
I'll stop here and wait for word from the supplier if a recone kit is available :fingers:
