Duratex alternative?

#1 Post by himhimself »

Anyone try Exohyde? I see PE sells it. When did Duratex get so pricey? My gallon has lasted a long, long time - done 10 cabs multiple times, plus some other stuff, but the last little bit finally dried up.
Application tip - get some cheap latex paint (like when Menard's would have a sale for ~$10/gal) and have them tint it a black as they can. If you put that down first, it takes very little Duratex to roll over and cover beautifully.

4xOtop J-array (Beta12, melded/straight)
Truck Tuba (MCM)
Next up: 2xJack12L or family of table tubas

Before putting the lid on, put a piece of clear plastic wrap on top of the remaining duratex. Not at the top of the bucket, but press it all the way down on top of the duratex. I've got a piece of a gallon that has lasted at least 4 years by doing that and there still some left in the bottom.

Absolutely. Always prime with Flat Black paint....no satin, gloss, etc.....only Flat. It dries almost instantly and makes the painting process go much quicker.

Yep, picked up that tip from you Bruce on the forum years ago. Works great. What I was trying to preserve was probably what any "normal" person would have just thrown out as an empty can :-)

You sir, have now proven yourself worthy of joining the Cheap Bastard Society, of which, I am the founder and President. My daughter heads up the women's auxiliary.
