I race A-Class & F18 Catamarans locally, were you thinking a cat, or dog (mono-hull)?

I really look forward to dropping anchor in your back yard and hanging out a little. That will be amazing!

Catamaran would be ideal for comfortable living space among other reasons. However, short of buying a hurricane damaged one, I think the price point of a cat is beyond my reach at the moment. Will probably have to start with the dog and work my way up to a cat. I was originally thinking 35' minimum and preferably something 45-55'. For me, the size is more about being able to have 4-6 or more people on board and have enough room to be relatively comfortable. But, I'm open to starting smaller and working my way up too. There's plenty of people sailing 24-30 footers to all the same places the larger boats go. I think ketch rigged might be my preference, but still open to discussion. We're just going into the off season up here. We'll see what kind of good deals pop up. There's a couple ferrocement deals that look appealing as far as interior craftsmanship, overall cleanliness, and price. But, I'm not sure about taking the ferrocement route, mostly due to trying to sell and get my money back out of it when the time comes to upgrade.

One of my two favorite YouTube sailing channels are an Australian couple. They started with a mono, when their channel started to take off, they upgraded to a cat, and now they've recently had a bad ass 60 foot trimaran custom built. The other channel I like a lot (American guy, Swedish lady) is actually in Australia right now having a custom all aluminum expedition cat built for them. I've been watching both of these channels for a long time and it's definitely proof that the money is there to be made. Both channels have very attractive women in them, so definitely gonna have to get one of those.

I suspect you're aware of the YT channels already. But, for other interested readers...
Sailing La Vagabonde
SV Delos

Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I recommend binge watching either of them from their beginnings.

No reason to be sad, Tom. I've already purchased a Starlink antenna array specifically for the venture. I don't foresee much of a change in my future participation here. I'll always love helping people achieve their audio goals and diving down rabbit holes trying to figure out the next interesting morsel in the seemingly endless quest for audio knowledge.

I got involved with the Pro Audio stuff when my Dad started doing shows again (he played professionally until he had kids and had to "get a real job"). However, he's no longer going to perform at the venue I was making all the cabs for, which is mostly why they're still just piles of parts. There's zero remaining urgency, and the only reason to complete them would be purely for the sake of completion. Part of me feels a little failure in not following through with my stated goals and intentions with these projects. I'm not going to beat myself up over it though. It's just time to move on to the next chapter and declaring these projects as obsolete is a little refreshing.

I lived in Wisconsin for 6 or 7 years. I'm pretty complete out that way, but anything's possible. A trip up the Mississippi would be amazing, or even the other way in to your neighborhood, up the St. Lawrence River before or after shooting across the North Atlantic to/from Europe. My current vision is more along the lines of tiki's, bikini's, and a warm ocean breeze. And less along the lines of curds of cheese, cicadas in trees, and chronic diabetes. More sand bar and less PBR. More spear fishing and less ice fishing.

How about we just meet up in Fatu Hiva, Bora Bora, or Tahiti instead? Please do though, bring cheese curds.

I'm serious. One of the attributes I aim to procure in a boat is having it be large enough to host guests and provide them with relatively comfortable, safe, and clean accommodations. It would be an honor to host any of you guys who wanted a little distraction and a piece of the action.

I've no idea why I have such a proclivity to rhyming right now. Fighting off the urge to go full on Dr. Seuss.

No more rhyming, this time I mean it!

Good choice, mono's are safer in heavy weather, and can point higher, so I'd say they're better for what you want.

They're great if you lose a rudder, you can still steer them with the spanker :)

No, I'll be starting a fresh virgin channel from scratch, specifically for the sailing adventure. I'm still working out the most effective name. I want to choose something that's relatable, memorable, and rolls of the tongue well. As much as I would love to name the boat "Sea Whores", I need the channel to be family friendly. Something old and young people alike, can openly talk about among any and all company. The name can't have been used on YouTube before and it would be great if the web address for the name is available too, without having to creatively word it. Like if I named my channel "Sailing Bananas" yet sailingbananas.com was not available but bananassailing.com was. I want everything to be congruent, purposeful, and planned.

The undertaking of this whole endeavor is absolutely massive. I'm taking it very seriously and going to do everything I can to create a successful channel and ultimately a successful business out of the venture. I wish it was just a matter of buying a boat and camera and shoving off into the sunset. But, it's creating and managing every possible social media avenue, creating and managing a website with a forum, storefront, and the networking needed to make the current status of the vessel available to anyone visiting the site... location, heading, speed, battery state, fluid tank levels, sea state, all of it available for anyone to see at any time of day. It's coming up with creative products to sell, how to have them made, and how to distribute them world wide. How to inspire people to genuinely want to support the project and donate a few bucks every month through avenues such as Paytreon and Ko-fi. And so much more.

I'll have to learn how to effectively capture video that people want to see in a way that's most pleasing. Additionally, I'll need to learn how to edit well. Learn how to create and deliver a pleasing storyline that keeps viewers attention and leaves enough hanging fruit to create a craving that draws the viewer into watching episode after episode.

As much as I envision sitting on a beach, hundreds of miles from any people that aren't part of my immediate group, and doing absolutely anything or nothing with my time for days on end, I think that's going to be ultra rare. There's just so much that will need to be done. A schedule will still be my master. Once things take off and I can afford to have other people do editing, merchandising, and bookkeeping, then I'll be able to relax a little more.

Here's a link to view a bubble chart I've created to help get some of this stuff out of my head and on to paper, so-to-speak. Don't bother opening the link unless you're really board or really interested. If you do, I'm open to any and all input. Seth's Bubble Chart

I think I'm going to get the channel up and running in January, even if I don't have a sailboat yet, because even getting my life organized, belongings liquidated, learning what I want and don't want in a boat, and the process of procuring the boat itself is part of the journey and can be a success worth sharing with potential viewers. Shoot, liquidating everything I have in my 30x14 storage unit could be an entire season of Storage Wars, American Pickers, or Hoarders episodes!

Anyway, I plan to present the videos in a format that draws the viewer into the journey, like being there without being there. Instead of what most other channels do... "here's what we did this past week" progress report style video. I want the viewer to feel as much of the same sense of adventure as I do in the moment.

Some other things I intend to do to differentiate my channel from other's is, every destination make a point to intentionally make it a better place. Consolidate and burry, or burn ocean trash that's found it's way onto an uninhabited island beaches, help a local with a task on a populated island, clean the growth off a fellow sailors hull, plant something, clean something, whatever! A portion of every video will have me and my group making some contribution to the betterment of another human being's day. I think that's something viewers will look forward to seeing in every episode, it's something I will be proud to present, and I feel it's generally a good thing to lead by example. Maybe, when there are natural disasters, I sail toward them and help with whatever need helping. I intend to give way more than I get out of this whole adventure.

I'll appreciate you following along and staying in touch, Rich. You should come out and meet up somewhere along the adventure route. If you're game, let's make it happen!

When I opened this thread, the sailor with his tattoos was nearly hidden at the bottom of my screen. I only saw "Homeward Bound". Thought for a bit that would be the title for your new adventure. It has an adventurous side to it, as well as the comforting feeling of going somewhere nice. Being homeward bound suggests to me you've been some place special and bring stories to tell.

Wow, what a change of plans. While for me it comes as a complete surprise it seems you have been thinking this over for a long time. And quite thoroughly.

I have done a lot of sailing, recently picked up again after a long absence, but all on a much smaller scale. I have mainly sailed open boats, just a few small yachts, all on fresh water only. The small boats are great fun, but a whole different cup of tea compared to sailing around the world as you intend to do. Small boats with fixed keel are easy to sail, yet still good fun when the wind picks up. The ones with just a centerboard rather than a heavy keel are kind of like the fresh water sports cars. Or go karts for that matter. No easy going, all hard work, a good workout and great fun. E.g. Laser Pico solo, Bahia with two people. The classic Laser is a blast. Completely different category of sailing though.

If you ever get to travel towards the northern parts of Europe, I'd be most happy to meet. Recommend you'd do so in summer only. Our seas are cold & wet during autumn and winter. Wet as in coming from above, mind you. I'm well aware that seas tend to be wet just about all over the world :noob:

Anton, I do plan on making it up your way. Primarily to visit the port my great grandfather departed from in the 1890's and possibly see the town/area he grew up in, in Denmark. In that light, "Homeward Bound" is fitting. I'll not pass by the Netherlands without pulling in to meet you and explore all places you recommend. And it'll definitely be summer time, as I'd also like to slide up to Iceland and the Faroe Islands while I'm up that way. There's also a few other guys from this site that I'd like to meet up with in the UK as well.
