Audio Insanity

#1 Post by himhimself »

Hey all, haven't been on the forum for a while. Was hoping to get the rig out today for my daughter's graduation party but we've got severe weather on the way so going to have to postpone.
Anyway, ticked a bucket list item two weekends ago while in Europe and attended Hi End Munich. Oh good grief, the craziness!! Quarter of a million bucks for a turntable? Plenty of choices. Cables at 2500eur/m? Sure. And the speakers...wow. If you've got unlimited funds, there's something there for you. Had a chance to do some serious listening on lots of esoteric brands including Magico's - yes, amazing.
There were a few horn speakers as well. These from AvantGuard were beautiful. The subs reminded me of my Tubas :D
All in all, a fun day of exploring and seeing/hearing some absurdly niche esoteric audio equipment.

Wow, I wish I had a fancy turntable like that! Then I could hear every pop, crackle, and scratch on a 50 year piece of crappy vinyl that can't reproduce much below 70hz....

I don't get the turntable/vinyl thing. Nothing about it is equal to most digital formats, let alone CD. I'm surprised those who think it makes sense aren't driving one of these:

I don't get it either, Bill. But I think it's the digital cables that really blow my mind. A zero is a zero, a one is a one. How can they sound better?!?!

Shortly after the CD was introduced just about everything audio was getting 'Digital Ready' stickers put on them. The only thing different about them was the stickers, which were liberally applied to all existing stock. :noob:
