Truck Tuba Chevy Silverado
Good morning, its been a while since I posted on this forum. A lot of knowledge and new builds to look at.
Going to be tackling a Truck tuba for my daughters boyfriend's truck. He owns a 2021 Chevy Silverado with 4 doors and not sure if behind the back seat is able to hold a 5" thick x 24x36 box?
Has anyone stood it up behind the seat and was able to still use that seat?

Great to see you back.
I drive a 2020 Silverado 4 dr. The back seatback doesn't fold down like they used to - so, no, there's no room behind it. I fold the seat up to get cargo room. You could put the seat up and put up against that. The seat splits, so you could probably get it in front of the longer portion and still have one seat in the back.

Re: Truck Tuba Chevy Silverado
I guess I am going to have to go stealth and measure what is a good place to park it as this is not a little box.

Re: Truck Tuba Chevy Silverado
It looks to me that the best placement for subwoofers in that particular vehicle is under the rear seat. Not exactly the best place for a TruckTuba or an AutoTuba. At one point I had thought about unfolding the design and trying to refold it into a shape that would fit under the seat. But, I chose the simple way and just installed a Bazooka Tube instead and moved on with other projects. However, if I were to do it again, I'd either take the time to see if it was possible to refold one of Bills designs to fit in the space or construct something similar to the photo below. The picture is actually a manufactured box and at less than $200, it isn't all that expensive in and of itself. However, once filled with drivers... the cost grows quickly. It is a clean install solution though.

Unfortunately, there's very little room under the seat as there is a built in tray under there cutting the depth down to only a few inches.Seth wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 1:07 pm It looks to me that the best placement for subwoofers in that particular vehicle is under the rear seat. Is yours like this?Bruce Weldy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 6:24 pm Unfortunately, there's very little room under the seat as there is a built in tray under there cutting the depth down to only a few inches.

It appears to be a factory optional accessory. It would obviously need to be removed if the OP's daughters BF's truck has that option and he wanted to utilize that space for a subwoofer enclosure. Shouldn't be too difficult to remove. Seems there's a lot of aftermarket storage lockers that take that same space too.

Re: Truck Tuba Chevy Silverado
Couldn't say for sure since I haven't attempted it yet. But, I'd probably unfold the design by taking measurements in SketchUp, reconstruct it in SketchUp as a straight horn only a 2D side profile, take measurements of where I thought the mouth should be in the allotted space in the vehicle, adjust the Sketchup model to 3D in a cab width that would equate to the mouth of the horn having the same area in SqFt or SqIn as is available in under seat location, then put the rest of the puzzle together by measuring the area of the horn throat in SketchUp at whatever length along the horn path a fold must occur, making sure to calculate horn length down the center of the horn path... or, something like that. You never know, you might be able to flip Bill a few hundred bucks to refold it for you. If he was willing to do it in the first place, you'd probably only get a SketchUp and no build plans though. So, you'd have to get all your cut dimensions and angles right off the SketchUp model itself and figure out the most logical assembly order.
That's how I'd dear it.

Re: Truck Tuba Chevy Silverado
I accidentally posted the link to the Double Cab version instead of the Crew Cab previously. Here are some links to the Crew Cab version as well as an Amazon link that also has 2x10, 2x12, and 1x12 versions for the Crew Cab. They also sell the 2x10 and 2x12 already loaded with drivers for a pretty reasonable, sub $400 price-point. I kinda like the down-firing design of the 2x and 1x cabs for driver protection. But, also like the 4x8 because it looks cool with the drivers lined up and visible. Really not sure which route I'd take if it were me, 4x, 2x, 1x, or a home built something or other. The 2x enclosures are tuned pretty high, 64Hz for the 2x10 and 58Hz for the 2x12. Where the 1x12 is tuned to 38Hz and the 4x8 is 41Hz.

Re: Truck Tuba Chevy Silverado
Judging by the pictures I'd say there's not enough room there for a horn.
Re: Truck Tuba Chevy Silverado
The 4x8 box says it's total volume is 2.8 CuFt. I assume that's internal volume. Looking at the minimum width external volume of the AT of 3.6 CuFt, the TAT at 3.3 CuFt, and the TrT at 2.5 CuFt leads me to believe it might be possible to fit a horn under there. Maybe.

Nice clean fit......of course, the first time you thrown a load of groceries in the back, you'll destroy the cones. Definitely need a way to put a grill or grate over 'em.Seth wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2024 11:30 am

Re: Truck Tuba Chevy Silverado
OK, got some measurements; there is enough room for the 5" deep 24x36 cab to fit under the seat. Also, found out this is a 2020 Silverado no tray.
Had my daughter distract him for a few moments so I could go measure. Its more like 6" but I think 5" would be ample. He has Weathertech mats in the back so I will have to put some rubber feet. Does the speaker face the floor like the table tuba?
I also understand that the whole 3/4% of the back floor pan will be used with a 5" box. But my daughter reassures me that nobody rides in the back seat and if they did they would just use the box as the floor while the seat will still be usable.
This works!
