Hello,
I am beginning work on my small table tuba LS build and have a few questions.
After reviewing the plans and sketchup numerous times, I noticed that the front firing (90 degree) version has a removable access plate behind the driver, but the side firing version does not. Is there a reason for this? I'm stuck on figuring out how I would screw the driver down without the access from the rear of the driver. Would be OK to add a removable plate behind the driver in the side firing version to easy mounting of the driver? Seeing the driver access is open on one side of the enclosure, I don't suspect this would make a difference sonically.
As for vertical orientation, I plan to stand the tuba upright. I see in the plans it is advised to place the driver on the ground firing towards the ceiling. I did not see any note about having clearance between the bottom of the enclosure and the floor but I wanted to make sure legs (clearance from floor) isn't required. Can someone confirm?
I presume it is not advisable to orient vertically with the driver at the top pointing down. Based on the recommendation to put the driver at the floor, I don't have much clearance above the enclosure with the mouth is at the top (due to shelf at about 52" from ground). Perhaps this doesn't matter. Feel free to slap my wrist for even bringing this up if I've gone sideways.. just a concern I had.
Lastly, my space is tight and I plan to install the enclosure(s) vertically with the access to the driver facing outward about 2.5 feet from a wall. Due to constraints I am unable to rotate the tuba so that the access at the driver is pointing towards (and will be 2" from) the short wall. To visualize, I am in a 14x20 room, and will run dual TTs on the short wall, each about 2" away from the short wall, and about 2.5 feet away from each long (side) wall. So the access at the driver will point towards the left and right longer walls respectively for each tuba. Will there be a problem with my installation if I cannot point the access at the short wall from 2" away? Is it OK that the access will point at the long walls from 2.5 ft away?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Greg

Re: STTLS - vertical orientation questions
The only way to know for sure if there's a placement issue is to measure the result, which is easy enough using a phone RTA app or REW software. You could aim it down, but that would require using at least 12 inch legs. As to the other question: https://www.harborfreight.com/8-piece-r ... JgQAvD_BwE

Re: STTLS - vertical orientation questions
Thanks Bill for your quick response. I'll give it a go as suggested.
I do have UMIK and REW and plan to take some measurement when all is completed.
