I miss live sound...

#1 Post by Chris_Allen »

Hey Everyone,

First off, Merry Christmas and a happy new Year to everyone in 'Speaker Land'!

'Speaker Land' was a term one of my employees used to use when I spent every spare moment at lunch and breaks in the coffee area reading post on here about things I didn't (and still don't in a lot of cases!) understand.

We've seen the passing of friends in recent past whom most of us would have loved to ask just one more question, simply because we not only respected their opinion, we enjoyed their virtual company.

I miss live sound. I miss walking into a room thinking, 'holy crap, how I am I going to make this sound good?' I miss the challenge, I miss the learning but most of all, I miss the building. The hours I would spend in the garage marking pencil lines on wood, creating plywood dust and swearing incessantly when things wouldn't line up only to observe a perfectly aligned cabinet to appear on the forum the following week. This wouldn't deter my enthusiasm but celebrate the accomplishments of others.

I miss playing guitar. The obsession that led me into live sound. I look at the wall covered in guitars, the other wall covered in amps, boxes full of pedals and unfathomable amount of PA equipment that is floating around. I'm trying to commit to playing guitar again as I've found myself lacking in confidence to play live. Joining bands, Jam nights, birthday meetups - they all feel like an activity of the past that I want to be part of. Instead, I find myself being are an armchair quarterback on how things could be better.

It's like starting over but without the time but still you find yourself buying equipment you never use.

I'm going to start from scratch again, do it simple, dedicate some time and regain some pride in something that I was once happy to say that I was good at.

This forum was a place I always did, and still do enjoy coming, keep it up people and I promise not to play smoke on the water ..... well, I won't play it often... maybe on Tuesdays....

Da, Da, deeer, da, da, da, deeer, da, da, deeer, da, deeer. (It's Wednesday)

Chris.

In about 1977, a guy came up to the stage of our country band and asked, "Can ya'll play Smoke on the River?"

4 - OT12 2512
