TLAH OR PRO'S FOR THEATER

#1 Post by milehighassassin »

Working on dialing in our home theater room. Currently I have the following:
  • THT 3636x24, its behind the listening area in a corner
  • 120" 4k projector, ceiling mounted
  • random speakers for my mains, Polk something for my center, cheap edifier rear surrounds
  • all my equipment is in my utility room and speakers were pre-wired when I build my house
  • carpet floors, basement with 9 foot ceilings, standard drywall finish

This area is a kids area, also have a pool table, bar, but I don't think that really matters. Listening distance varies from time to time because the kids moving stuff to play, forts, etc.

My plans are to use a TLAH or the pro version for my mains, wall mount them higher? (should they be head level, does it matter? Can I mount them on the wall with the tops near the ceiling?
I feel like the room is large, 16'x18' with another room behind it with no wall at all (see pic) that is 14'x23'
Would I benefit from the Pro version?
So really, 32x16 feet pushing 32x 23 in areas

Center I was planning on the SLA Curved array. I planned to mount this above my screen, maybe angle it down toward the listening area (is that needed). Chance I have to put it under screen and point up, need to check the plans for clearance above.

Then I was considering building surrounds to replace the Edifier I have now. I believe that is part of the TLAH plans. I currently have the TLAH, SLA, David and THT plans. I don't mind buying the Pro if they will work better for me.

For power I am a Denon fan, but I have inherited a TON of older but super quality AV equipment. My Wife's aunt/uncle owned an AV company, both have passed on. I have probably 35 commercial amps, from single channel to multi room systems. So if I need more power than my Denon AVR-X3500H can provide I have options.

oh... this is theater/tv only. Upstairs I have a smaller tv, with speakers more designed for music, etc.

Thanks in Advance.

Basically what I was planning from that pic, Just wasn't sure the height of that room. Thoughts on TLAH or Pro TLAH? Would I benefit from the pro in this room?
Does the SLA center (horizontal) need to be angled towards the seating area or is level near ceiling level okay?

TIA

You don't want the center above the screen. My room is 14x16 feet, I have no need for the Pro.

The TLAH are amazing for HT, l can't imagine my life without them. The TLAP in their suited environment are also mind blowing, which l feel isn't inside a basement!
The GT302s are much nicer for HT, both cabs are here if you want a demo mate.

TLAH all the way. Buy these right now! https://www.parts-express.com/TR-48-Spe ... quantity=1 There was a thread about these drivers and the man gave his approval. I got enough to build 2 angled TLAH's, a 9 drive SLA center, 4 surrounds, and a few extra just in case. If my garage wasn't a disaster from insulating/finishing project, they'd be built by now.

Milehighassassin, would you recommend a mulit-channel AV amp over pro grade rack amps? Right now I only have a 2.1 setup with a Crown amp powering my AT. I was looking a Sonamp 1250 mkii a guy was selling but it sold before I could do any research on it. Would that be the right direction for a 7 channel setup? I'm pretty sure my Denon avr-s750h's amp power will be fine for my needs.
