J210 Lite bass guitar cab Review

#1 Post by Clef's of Bass »

What can I say?

I've got maybe 6 or so rehearsals on it thus far, and every time I plug into it I'm blown away. It's still hard to believe that a 210 can get so loud and keep up with a drummer and tube driven guitar. Not only can you hear it clearly in the mix you can feel the bass too when properly wall loaded. I'm even conservative with the amperage I feed it. 800w head with two 250w 10's... I only put about 35% to 40% on the transformers into it and it's plenty.

This cab and my basses are very mid range heavy. I mean to the point that I cut the mids completely to start with. And the tone out of it is awesome. Once the mix starts getting loud and the bass starts to get buried, I will slowly add mids in the EQ on the amp and I'm right back in the mix without adding more amperage... so cool.

Oh, and did I mention that it weighs only 41lbs? This is obviously my primary rehearsal traveler.

Thanks Bill for the design. From the build itself and actually using it, it's been a really fun journey.

I made a Jack 110 Lite last year and I'm just in love with it. Very articulate, cuts through well. Plenty loud for my needs. If I ever need more, I'll make a second one. And YES the light weight is to die for.

One thing I've forgot to mention. Absolutely no need for tweeters for this 210 config. As is, the cab is capable of full frequency response (for a bass guitar) especially if properly wall loaded.

If you're a bass player and want to build a 2'10' or 1'10' Jack or Jack Lite, keep it simple and omit the tweeter. You will not be disappointed.
