Re: SLA Pro - Powered
Downloaded the software and confirmed what you said about the high pass being locked in at 1khz...which makes me think this is a software lock and not really a "passive" high pass as the manual says. If the software limits the options, then there's really no need for a passive high pass.
But the Low side amp does show that it can go all the way out to 22khz....
What's weird is that the screen cant' be manipulated and it spreads across both of my monitors and won't maximize to fit on one. Doesn't really matter as I'd be using my laptop anyway....

Thanks. I can probably grab some at my old supplier in San Antonio. Or, I'll just go with two cables for the time being. Hell, I might even break my rule of only using 12ga. cables since this will be a single use cable and won't ever get used in my big rig.SethRocksYou wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 3:47 pm If you choose to go that route, I'm happy to send you some 4 conductor cable (12 gauge)

Re: SLA Pro - Powered
Well, how's this for a Thanksgiving surprise? Just got an email from Eminence that my 4-Alpha 6s are shipping today. Guess they got some parts in and built some drivers!
Now, I definitely need to come to a final decision and get this thing done. I'm tired of having a half-built speaker in my garage.....I'd prefer a totally finished speaker that never gets used in my garage.

Well, decided I'm going ahead with Seth's idea.....so I went to HD to pick up a DPST switch...and they were out even though they showed one in their inventory.....
Oh well, lots to do before I need it anyway....

Re: SLA Pro - Powered
Ordered the switch I needed from Amazon.....got here this evening, so I spent a few minutes putting it in the jack plate. I've decided on my wiring scheme.....
Up - With Sub. the power will be routed out of the left speakon. That will feed the T24 and return after the passive crossover in the T24 back to the right speakon which will go to the SLA passive crossover and the woofers.
Center - OFF
Down - Without Sub. Amp it sent to the woofers and crossover of the SLA.
The SLA can also run in passive mode by plugging in a power amp to the right speakon.

You're welcome. Almost didn't mention it. Glad I did and happy it's going to help you out Bruce. Switch and jack plate looks great.
Are you going to run the tweeters with the High Pass channel in the amp? I can't think of any reason not to.Bruce Weldy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 7:21 pm ...Up - With Sub. the power will be routed out of the left speakon. No, I'm gonna' stick with the passive crossover in the SLA. I want to be able to run it as a passive speaker in my garage with my old Peavey PA head.....it's much easier to use as it's always hooked up and I don't have to pull out a board, etc.SethRocksYou wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 2:56 am

Re: SLA Pro - Powered
The drivers showed up yesterday......a lot quicker than they said they were gonna' ship....
Started doing some of the little things that just have to be done prior to getting out the glue. Lined up the jack plate and drilled the pilot holes same with the amp.....
While I had the amp sitting in there, I decided to test that thing before going any further because the enclose quick guide said that the LOW side amp had a hard low pass at 3k....WHAT!!!!????
Looked at the date on that guide - 2016. Came in and brought up the manual online....from 2018. There is no set low pass. So, I rigged it up to test with my garage system - note the high tech alligator clips holding the amp output wired to the speaker cable (yes, it's 1/4" - that's all the old Peavey has).
Hooked it all up and there were no highs at all.......
Next step - get out the laptop and download the software. Did that and hooked it up - came up fairly easy. Sure enough, the thing was pre-set with a low pass on the LOW side. Cranked that up to about 16khz and all was good. Played with the EQ some and figured out how to save them. That will be useful to have different EQ setting based on whether I use 'em stand alone or with the sub.
Drilled the hole in the bottom for the top hat.....still more piddly work to get done before playing with the PL.

Re: SLA Pro - Powered
Actually, this is taking longer than anything I've ever built. Between waiting for parts and being generally more lazy than I used to be - this is dragging on longer than I anticipated. Went out to work on it yesterday and it was just a little too chilly.....however, I did get all the damping cut the other night along with all of the various screw holes predrilled. It's really down to just starting assembly.

Re: SLA Pro - Powered
Bruce, do you want pre-fab grills for your cabs? I've got a pair of here , intended for my pair, but that were bent about 1/4" too short in width for my taste. They could be easily modified to fit if someone wasn't too particular about a minor gap running down the side. PM me if interested.
Good food, good people, good times.

Re: SLA Pro - Powered
After bending one grill for a 2x6 SLAP, I decided short of having a sheet metal brake, the results are not worth the effort and started investigating other options. On the next grill I do, I'm just going to cut it to size, put plastic edging around the perimeter, put it on stand-off's, and see how I like the result.
Here's the plastic edging I ordered. It has an adhesive strip built in.

Re: SLA Pro - Powered
I've always just used flat grills with about 1/16" clearance all around and no edging is necessary. Once you put a foam backer behind it - it looks great..SethRocksYou wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 6:27 pm After bending one grill for a 2x6 SLAP, I decided short of having a sheet metal brake, the results are not worth the effort and started investigating other options.
