XF-208 anyone? :D

#1 Post by mrz80 » Fri Dec 13, 2019 9:35 am

Here's a screwy idea - anyone ever given consideration to scaling down the XF design for 2x8"? I'm thinking for home and casual jams, and 'cause after putting together an XF-212 and loving the sound (and the magical horizontal dispersion that lets me wander around and still hear what I'm doing) I'd like something that takes up minimal space in th' home office. That, and I just think the XF cab looks as cool as it sounds with all those compound angles. 8) I was looking at the Celestion Eight 15s that P.E. has for not many dollars.

It could be done of course. I never bothered to design one. As it is the XF212 plans outsell the XF210 by about a 4:1 ratio.

I've really been wanting to make a XF2-6.5. (Always find something else to do instead though...)
After initial testing with different drivers in a SLA pro 2x6 I had sitting around, I think it would work pretty well. Especially with a small 5W head or something.
Also wondering if I could get lucky and cut all the XF212 dimensions in half for minimal modification.
Authorized Builder - Phoenix AZ.
Main Rig - 6 DR200s - 6 T48s (30")
SLA Pros for the smaller stuff.

You could, if you made it from 1/4" plywood. I don't recommend it, though 3/8" BB might do. The 'scale' tool in sketchup will let you scale it down, or up, but then you'd still have to do a fair amount of work getting the parts back to the desired thickness.

I'm thinking that, luddite that I am, it'll be easier for me to dig out the graph paper and a ruler and scale the thing down by hand rather than try to finagle it in software. Should be fun. I've got enough offcuts and extra hunks of 1/2" floating around the garage (don't ask me how many baffle boards I managed to cut with one of the bevels facing the wrong way  ) to build one or two of 'em. First shot I'll probably use some of that stack of random 8" I got for my old cabs that turned out to be not the right drivers for a sealed box. This'll be fun! 8)

It has been done.

Forum member sine143 built one and the build thread was something like "bastard XF208", but I can't find the thread...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" BP102 , 2 x 28" 3012lf.
WH8: x 3 with melded array.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...
