Had my first experience as a “DJ” over the weekend. Event was a Fall Festival/Veterans’ Day celebration at the Town Green one town over. Very casual, low-key thing, with craft booths, food trucks, a farmer’s market, and several student groups from the high school. I set up my two 3012-loaded T39s centered in front of the stage, and stacked two 2512/piezo OT12s per side. I played pre-recorded music throughout the day, and wound up making lots of announcements as well. Volume was modest - I have a pet peeve about systems run too loud for people to talk, so since I was running the mixer, I got to set the volume where I thought it was reasonable.
Basically, the system sounded just like a really big hi-fi. Smooth, clear, effortless sound, just like a home stereo only louder. The piezo arrays really smooth out nicely once you’re ten feet or so away. And even though the rule for outdoors says twice as many subs as tops, the two T39s didn’t struggle a bit, probably because I wasn’t trying to blow peoples’ eardrums off. Just very clear, full, satisfying sound.
My rack has a Behringer XR18, and I enjoyed controlling everything from my iPad, especially when stopping/starting the music for the cakewalks!
Got lots of compliments on my song selections too.
An enjoyable day. Thanks Bill!
