Okay.....I've finally done it....I bought a Behringer....with my own money....and I didn't use an assumed name.

My rack is full and that means I have to tote an extra amp rack when I need more than two monitor mixes - which is most of the time. So, I started to search out 4 channel amps to replace the current XTi 2000 that's been running 2 channels of monitors. Most of the time, 4 mixes is all I need and I'm tired of the heavy amp rack.

So, I broke down and bought the 4 channel iNuke. My reluctance to buy one of these or a Carvin 4 channel has always been the reversed air flow from the rest of the Crowns in my rack. I'll get to that in a minute.

I busted open the box just now and did a voltage test on it. It did indeed put out the stated power amounts (57-59 volts) - hitting right at 60 running full tilt. That was also hitting the red on the input control of the amp. When I backed it down until it came out of the red - it was at 42 volts......so, about 220 watts at 8 ohms. Of course, who knows how far you can go with it in the red before getting distortion. I used a 100hz tone to test. I wonder if using 1k would have yielded better results?

Anyway, that should be fine for my monitors. Probably a little less power compared to the Crown, but it was never getting hammered anyway.

Next move is to tear the amp open and see if I can reverse the air flow on the fans.

I've been thinking about getting the same amp and also wondered about flipping the fan direction. Patiently waiting for the next episode.

Now, for our second installment (get it? installment? gonna' install something?....oh, never mind...) of:

This actually was pretty easy. The fans are designed to be installed either direction. Popped it open by taking off the top and taking out the four screws that are on the outside of the fan grills.

The one of the right went pretty easy, but the one on left was harder. The wires for both fans run underneath the board with the speakon jack. Then they hit all the wires with hot melt. There wasn't any slack for the one on the left......so, I had to take out the screws that held that board and move it up some. I was able to go through the bottom holes and pry the hot melt loose. That gave me just enough slack to get the left one out and turn it around.....

Put it all back together and it's blowing the right way now.

Kinda' cheesy looking with the round front and psychedelic knob lights......but, it all works and my back will be happier.....

I would have been tempted to upgrade the fans if you went to the trouble of turning them round but I couldn't remember if they were soldered to the PCB or had a connector.

It goes to show that Behringer is working hard to change the perception of their brand. Maybe you should phone them up and you can be the next poster boy?

Awesome..nice to know you can reverse the airflow. I stand firm in my commitment to NOT put all my amps in a single amp rack. I have four stackable DIY amp racks, each with its own amp and processor or power conditioner, whatever is needed. Each box is around 50 lbs, most are 4U with one a 6U. My stuff often goes first down..then up stairs for a venue that is in the basement.

First question I ask of any job I'm offered......Are there stairs? I will go up or down a step, but not stairs.

Don't know what my rack weighs, but I can handle it by myself up and down the ramp of the trailer and over a single step without a problem.

I hate stairs. Used to frequently play a church converted into a bar with a 14 stair load-in. Later the building mysteriously burned down. The only thing left were the 14 stairs. I hate stairs. I thought they were joking with the 4 chains that separated the mix position from the crowd. They were not. Saved me and my console from being crushed. Place was always packed. I remember 14 as the number I hated most. 14 stairs and all the gear had to come in. This was before class D amplifiers and digital boards, so amp racks and house consoles were a two man job. Today I use an X32 Rack, 2 IPR 3000s and an iNuke 1000 for wedges or fills. Like a feather. I still hate stairs.

Used the new Berry amp Sunday night for an acoustic song swap.... ran four mixes. During the setup, my helper said one of the monitors wasn't working....it was during the first check. Turned the knob down then back up and it started working. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Other than that, it seemed to be ok.

I'll hit it again tonight with four mixes.....we'll see how it does.

I use a ton of Behringer equipment. I am not a big fan of the iNuke or the EPQ series though, it doesn't seem to have the same punch as the EP series. I have 10 of the ep4000 and 8 of the ep2000 amps and have had zero problems out of them over the last 7 years. They have been rained on, stored in a trailer year round, and no problems. For the money they can't be beat IMHO.
