Impero vs Definimax vs Kilomax

#1 Post by BrentEvans »

Regarding the three top Eminence 18" drivers, what's really the difference? I have a client who blew up a pair of Yamaha CW118s (actually, the DSP fried and toasted the drivers in the process... it does happen!).

In any case, the existing drivers are Delta Pros (yamaha OEMs the delta pro for this cab). The higher end drivers aren't that much more and all look like they would work well enough in the cab, so therein lies the question. Kilomax has 20% more xmax, and costs 30% more than the other two, they all basically handle the same power.

Why one over the other?
99% of the time, things that aren't already being done aren't being done because they don't work. The other 1% is split evenly between fools and geniuses.

The highest xmax will have the highest output.

How much more output does 10mm over 8mm give you in a ported cab?

Okay then, that's significant enough to be worth 50 bucks.

Thanks for the prompt and informative reply, Bill. I know I can count on you as usual.

Eminence doesnt have a deep bench when it comes to 18s, and even their "stars" barely hang with italy's offerings 2 generations back.

18 sound lw1400/2400, BC 18tbx100 are good examples of the previous generation of italian 18s that do quite well in bass reflex enclosures.
Built:
2x Tuba 30s delta12lf loaded (gone)
4x Otop12 d2512 loaded
8x t48s (18, 18, 24, 24, 30, 30) 3015lf loaded
2x AT (1 mcm, 1 gto 804)
2x SLA Pro (dayton pa6, 6 goldwood piezo loaded)
1x bastard XF208

2x OT212 (delta pro 450a loaded, eminence psd)

The Qts of the Kilomax Pro 18 is quite high with respect to a low Fs of 30Hz. This means the motor on it is quite weak making it more suitable for a large and low tuned enclosure, though it will work. I don't know the volume and tuning of the Yamaha sub in question.
