What can i use to fill this gap between two panels?

#1 Post by Arben »

It seems that i messed up my cut on panel _ of my Tuba 30  by a few mm in the middle so at the top and bottom of the panel it meets the other panel im gluing it to but in the middle of the panel theres a gap of about 1.6mm at most, what should i use to fill this gap? I was about to rush ahead and use wood filler but thought i'd ask here first?

I'd say the PU expanding adhesive would fill and more importantly seal that gap, from a functional point of view, just get plenty on that joint. If you're bothered about aesthetics after that, the car filler is ok, but it doesn't stick great onto adhesive in my experience. It's worth working out,why you have a gap, then you can try and avoid another time. Since its a long gap.as well, one, needs to think about how the two pieces will clamp up together while the PU cures. Also, take other opinions on this, I'm no expert with PU and I've never had gaps of that size.

The gap occurred due to me not angling my 235mm circular saw correctly, i was using the sled as per plans but wasnt holding it correctly all the way through the cut, once i got a bit into the cut the rear end of the saw wasnt flush with the sled and since its a huge blade it took out a big chunk of the middle section, i probably should get a smaller circ saw :bash:

+1. I use a 165mm cordless for plywood.

I'll look into some of those tonight, here's before/after using PL adhesive to fill, I cut the excess off with a razor once dry, seems good, the PL adhesive is translucent/clear there isn't any empty space inbetween the panels now.
