acoustic foam supplier, speaker fill/sound deadening
I found this supplier of acoustic foam in bulk and in colors, many textures and flat sheets. Almost as cheap as mattress topper from Walmart, but is real acoustic designed foam: http://www.thefoamfactory.com/acousticf ... cfoam.html and free shipping on orders over $75.

I've bought from them when I lived nearby. Good quality. The free shipping is new, previous shipping cost was very exorbitant.

When I was buying my JBL LSr 4326 studio monitors from Sweetwater several years back, I remember this very same item, mentioned by the sales rep as necessary, and asked him "why it costs $75 for some foam blocks." These are exactly the same foam blocks but mine had the Auralex stickers on them. After I told him I wasn't going to buy them for that he gave them to me for free with the $1000 speakers.....

There's no such thing. Convolutions look impressive but don't do anything. OTOH air doesn't damp sound waves, so any foam depth which is air and not foam reduces its effectiveness. As for 'isolation', read this:heavybdrums wrote:but is real acoustic designed foam

IKR...If the foam blocks weren't free I wouldn't have got them, however they are in use especially since the desktop monitor speakers don't have rubber feet and would be sitting directly on the 3/4" 4x8 finished plywood that is my desk, and in that case do serve a purpose. These studio monitors don't have much response below about 130 hz, but even at that, if i didn't use something, they do create a sound coloring resonance through the 4x8 plywood desk that would be causing you to make incorrect mix decisions once translated into the "average" living room environment. Believe me I have tried them without the foam blocks, alternatively i could have put rubber feet on the speakers, or just bought some ordinary foam to put under them, but like I said they were free, so no need.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote:There's no such thing.
