The Ultimate AutoTuba

#1 Post by cgsharp8 »

Hello All!!
I've been working on this AT with my dad for a couple of weeks now. We have completed constructing it, all thats left is to stain it.
This will all be one long line of images just so you know. Also, since the attachment limit for an individual post is 5, this will be separated into several posts/comments within this thread.
Hope you enjoy!

Looks good Colt. BTW, Thanks to Bruce Weldy for some technical help. Way cool to find kind of personal help from people on this forum. Much appreciated.

Tested it in the house last night. Even with a setup that was not exactly right, this thing truly sounds amazing. I'm finding it hard to imagine the sonic impact inside a volvo 240 wagon. Colt, your getting' ear plugs for your birthday.

Ear plugs won't help with the 'sub' frequencies. I had a 740 with the AT, backed into the shop at work, and was almost overwhelmed by the low freqs when I was wearing ear muffs (_27db).

The low frequencies don't have to go through your ear canal to get to your ear drum, since they can travel through your skull and brain and still get to the ear drum  . Not much can stop low frequencies from traveling where they want to go.

+1. That's why low frequencies on an equal loudness chart rise so high. The low frequency waves hit both sides of the eardrum, resulting in cancellation. The lower you go the more than cancellation. It's one reason why we really don't hear below 15Hz or so. What is down that low we feel. Even elephants, who communicate over miles with ultra low frequencies that they can 'speak', don't actually hear what's being said. They feel it through their feet, with the low frequency waves being conducted through the ground.

Here are a few more pics to show how we have finished the AT. Danish Oil dark walnut. Satin lacquer finish with HVLP gun. Then waxed and buffed. Hope you enjoy!
