Double Table Tuba's and TLAH's

#1 Post by chopperguy99 »

I finally completed the 2nd table tuba (minus finish). I watched a few movies over the weekend, and all I can say is WOW! The TLAH's play louder and cleaner than I can stand. The double TT with the MCM 8's, powered by a PE 240 watt plate amp is absolutly thunderous! I built the access hole on the opposite side on one so I can run these with the mouths coupled. The PE amp is coasting along at 1/3 on the volume knob, and has no trouble keeping up with the TLAH's, which are powered by an older Pioneer reciever. I was impressed when I hooked up one TT, but with 2, the bass is even more effortless, sounds smoother, and I can run the amp alot lower because of the lower ohm load, as well as increased sensitivity. No comparison to the dual 12 ported box these replaced. The wife was impressed with the big wooden boxes in the living room, as most women would be, 8) but I will finish it anyway so it is a little less intrusive. I would put this system up against anything I have heard before, bar none. There may be stuff out there that could hang, but myself, or anyone I know couldn't afford it. I have less than 250 dollars (including finishing supplies AND amp) in the subs, and around 200 dollars in the TLAH's. This is the only way to go. Thank you, Bill. These designs are cheaper than free when you add in the excellent support this forum offers. A pic can be seen here. http://www.frappr.com/fitzmaurice/photos/6857185
I will put one up when I get the finish done.

Good job. I can't make out from the pic but are those TT made of 1/2" MDF? If so, how heavy are they?

They are 1/2 mdf. I brought them into the house one at a time by myself. Kinda heavy, but they wont be getting moved much. MDF is what I built the tlah's out of, too, and I personally like it better than ply for stuff that isnt being moved around. I find it easier to finish.
I had a chance to pump some hip-hop and rap through the sub now that the woofers are both broken in. This thing could cause serious damage! I have stuff rattling in the opposite end of the house! Build a couple of these subs if you want unbelievable low end. I grin from ear to ear everytime I listen to this system.
