Hello says Lars from Sweden

#1 Post by GNUlars »

Hi there!
I´m a 49 year old luthier/woodworker from Sweden. I´m running a guitar repair shop outside Göteborg which is the second largest city in Sweden. I also teach woodwork at a school and I write Bass reviews for the Swedish guitar magazine FUZZ.
My band mate´s son built Tubas for his gigs as a DJ. Their output is phenomenal. I was very sceptical about building large bass bins with a 12", you know the rest.....
I´m building two W10´s for my band, thought I might be able to run a little bass in my monitor. (We have five separate monitor sends, an a six channel monitor amp, so I might as well use them...) The W10´s just need paint, handles and a crossover, so almost finished... They turned out to be pretty heavy, so I plan on making lighter W8´s for the singers.
I have started building DR200´s... In a lightweight version faithful to the plans in measurement and geometry, but a little different construction wise. To me it is easier (and more fun) bending plywood than to find plastic pipes in the right dimensions and making jigs to split them.
Making six or twelve DR200`s, great fun!
Also have two T39´, a T48, four W8´s and two W6´s in the making
No, I´m not in a hurry...

Hi Lars, and welcome to the forum. I hope you are enjoying your builds!

PS: what does the GNU part mean. (I think of Linux).

Hi Tom!
My company is called GNU Musikverkstad (music workshop) doing guitar finishing, repair and building.. . We picked an animal we liked for the company name, has nothing to do with computers or snowboards.... You can check out gnu.se if you like, not updated for several years, but....

I have had a great time studying plans and reading the forum. I bought all the plans so there is a lot to look into...

November 2014
Not done much since July, but now I found new motivation
Got a little carried away... I´m now working on a bunch of DR200´s, four W8´s, two W6´s, and a T48...
I still have not completed my two W10´s, I made crossovers and bought driver. Have to finish the grilles and handles...
We´ll see what will become of all this, I am an expert project starter, not all projects are ever finished...
