4 more T60! next up 6x DR280

#1 Post by snowphish »

Building season is upon us :hyper:

The 4x T60, 6x OT12 kit was very well received, we've had a busy summer with 2-3 festivals, a teknival and all sorts of gigs around town.

So here we are, very lucky to have easy access to, what seems to us, as really good quality birch, 9-ply 1/2 for 26$/sheet of 5x5 and we also got some 4x8 on sale at 40$/sheet.

And a new addition to our shop which should save us some time :D

Cutting starts this weekend! Drivers already on hand. We hope to improve on the accuracy of our cuts and give them wheels, handles and rounding the corners.

You need to get some Jazz Festival gigs. When I was there last summer I saw at least a dozen outdoor stages, and the only one with decent sound was the main event stage at Place Des Arts.

We've been meaning to develop the company and cater to a different clientele though we haven't had the chance to network, actively seek gigs or market our services. We have a fair amount of experience having all worked and still work with other production companies. More gear definitely won't hurt.

Cutting was a breeze with the new table saw, more precise, less hesitation, we cut all internal parts in about 6 hours, the first 2 sets of braces did not take long either. The higher quality dust masks and ghetto ambient air filter we constructed using an HVAC motor, a box and a furnace filter kept us from getting sick like last year. Ready to start assembly tonight.

We're seriously thinking of building a CNC following plans like mechmate.com, possibilities for fun, learning and profit seem endless. Next upgrades include truck, bigger trailer and moving the shop out of the basement.

Yea, a CNC would be great but the problem I see with the Mechmate is that every single component seems to be custom made! Not a good design philosophy in my opinion :-)

I know, I was first looking at the bigfoot 4x8 on buildyourcnc.com but I think I would rather invest in a metal-based one - I figure wood can warp over time and loose precision...

The 4 T60s are almost ready to be closed up, we have 2 new drivers ready to be installed and 2 burnt drivers that we will recone this week; we burnt 3 Lab15s back when we only had one T60 amongst a bunch of direct radiating with no limiter. Unfortunately it took us long enough to learn from our mistakes, but we did learn, we now have a PA2 rack and a RTA mic, the kit sounds great we're just waiting to be able to bring it outside and measure it properly. We've successfully reconed a Lab15 in the past, not as easy as the semi-assembled kits but the worst part is really removing the old glue - though brake cleaner works the best.

So we gave the front braces a little curve

We use these wedges to hold the braces in place - yes our basement shop is a mess :x
