What are you using it for? Highlight DJ table, band (stage lighting), dancefloor only, etc?
For most lighting, wash lights are the base that you build on with things like moving heads and effects lighting added for movement and texture. One moving head isn't going to do much of anything. A pair can be ok for a dark dancefloor look or on either side of the DJ to draw attention but you'll still need some kind of wash light on the performer, preferably at least 2 as one light will cast shadows that need to be filled in from the other side. $500 isn't much for a moving head that has decent output, for that budget the Chinese heads on ebay are a good deal but cross your fingers that you won't need parts. IMHO anything under 60 w LED for a moving spot isn't bright enough to be worth the expense unless you're just doing small pub gigs.
If your're dead set on a moving head under $500 delivered, then
these are a tremendous value for what you get, although without a controller, you'll only use a fraction of their capability on sound active. As always, haze really brings lights to life.
