Easy way to clamp at 90°

#1 Post by DJ Nada »

I saw this in a woodworking magazine, and immediately thought of using this in my next speaker build.

Simpson Strong-Tie concrete form angles are very precise, cheap, and easy to clamp. I'll just put a picture here, and you can imagine the many uses:

I have some aluminum squaring brackets that were made for wood working, but I paid considerably more. :(
I certainly would have tried these had I known they existed. Funny that they are billed as concrete former supports, but the majority of reviewers mention using them for wood working projects!

Whoa, thanks for that. I damn near paid like $30 for the same thing in aluminum at woodcraft the other day.

I built mine from scrap plywood.....didn't cost anything.

Regardless of material....you can't beat 'em for getting panels square.

Me too Bruce. But they get out of square with use. Dropped, thrown, gooped up with PL.

Yeah, I imagine the amount of work yours get - they might need replacing once in a while. Mine are still fine.

And it's funny....I just built 'em on a whim because I remembered seeing them in a woodworking magazine years ago. I couldn't imagine trying to build any kind of box, much less a speaker, without 'em.

Empire roofing squares from Home Depot or other similar outlets have gaps in them that allow for small clamps. I used them on my last OT12 build and got some very fine boxes. Relatively cheap and handy to have anyway.

I also picked up some 90 degree clamps from harbor freight. They allow for clamping T joints, corner joints, cross joints and of varying thicknesses. Havent used them yet but hoping they'll work well for keeping panels square.
