Hello all,
My wife asked me how much it would cost to build a 20' x 20' dance floor for the back yard. I was thinking of using 7/16" OSB plywood. 8" x 4' (cheaper than 1/2" ply) cut in half with inter locking tabs to make dis assembly and storage easier.
Would Duratex be a good paint use and able hold up to 3-4 hour of dancing 1 or 2 weekends a month? Or is there something that will hold up better.
Thanks in advance,
Oscar

Textured paint is a horrible idea. A dancefloor needs a certain amount of "slide" for any type of dance. Any type of grip will have people loosing their footing and twisting ankles and falling down. Been there done that even with just young adults bouncing around in one spot. Glue down vinyl tiles and then wax, or laminate can be had for a buck a sq foot these days, or for about $4 sq foot google roll out vinyl dance floor.

More important than what's on top is what's underneath. You need to build really good bracing or it will really sag with only 7/16 OSB. I would say no area larger than 2'x2' without a 2x4 under it.

I think the idea Bruce is to just lay it on the ground with no support. You can get a commercial unit as found on sites like this that is weatherproof and easy to set up. An ad in kijiji, craigslist etc might get a couple of rentals from you a year which could help offset the costs some.

Yeah, I've used those....but, you aren't going to make 'em with 7/16 OSB. They wouldn't last an hour....and finding a way to connect them on edge would be be close to impossible. The commercial units that lay flat are heavy with a metal frame for connection.CoronaOperator wrote:I think the idea Bruce is to just lay it on the ground with no support.

Hey guys thank you for the Info and thoughts. I wanted to keep on the cheap, but from the looks of it, it won't be easy or cheap if I want to set it up on the grass. Maybe the pool deck will be the better option with roll out vinyl.
Thanks again,
Oscar

That sounds like a plan.
