Hi All,
This is not strictly BFM-related but, having built some BFM speakers and used advice from this forum, I know this could be a good source of knowledge for my problem.
I have apair of Jamo Classic 8 main hifi speakers. They sound great, but one of the bass drivers has developed a buzz. It looks like a damaged voice coil as I can feel friction if I gently move the cone back and forth. Jamo no longer make the driver or supply a replacement so I am left with having to source a suitable replacement. I'm not very very precious about the replacement being exactly the same as the original as each speaker contains 2 x bass drivers , 1 x mid driver, and 1 x tweeter, so as far as directionality goes, replacing one bass driver with something, as long as its very close, shouldn't be the end of the world compared to mis-matched mid driver or tweeter... Hopefully!
The driver being replaced is one like this:

I can't find exact specs for it, but have read that Jamo recommended this as a replacement:
http://www.parts-express.com/jamo-21330 ... r--299-958
which has the following specs:
Power handling: 40 watts RMS/80 watts max *VCdia: 1" *Le: 1.10 mH *Impedance: 8 ohms *Re: 6.67 ohms *Frequency response: 40-5,000 Hz *Fs: 48 Hz *SPL: 86 dB 1W/1m *Vas: 0.71 cu. ft. *Qms: 3.35 *Qes: 0.84 *Qts: 0.67 *Xmax: 3 mm *Dimensions: A: 6-3/4", B: 5-5/8", C: 3".
The ebay supplier wants over 120 dollars for the driver + postage from canada and it will take 6-8 weeks. I would rather get a suitable replacment for less from the UK.
Would anyone know where to start looking? Or recommend a suitable replacement that is available in the UK?
Any help very much appreciated!
Regards,
Richard
