New guy with question may have been asked and answered
I got the plans for the Tuba HT.
I was thinking I'd use it as the bass box in a speaker set up I want to build.I have been wanting the low tones of the folded horn.
I was going to build a midrange and tweeter set up to sit on top of it with an appropriate crossover.
This is for two channel listening I wanted to get all of the recording and not cut things off at 50Hz or 35Hz.If there is 20Hz available on the recording that is what I wanted to hear.I'm not chasing 17Hz per say.Mostly cd but some vinyl too.
Now I'm not sure what the amp is that Bill was mentioning in the write up."... And, loaded with the recommended Parts Express Dayton RSS390 HF4 driver, you can build a THT for $500, including an amp that will take it to +126dB levels."
Also I am not a real fan of a ton of volume.Clear is more important to me than shear volume.
So can I build this and hook it up to a crossover and use it as my bass bin with the same outstanding results?
I can,right?

A THT is clearly not called for, in your stated case. To be honest, I think you really need to consider building a pair of Davids.

You may, but it will take some serious tops to keep up with it, and they need to work from 100Hz.tomward1 wrote: So can I build this and hook it up to a crossover and use it as my bass bin with the same outstanding results?

Work from 100Hz,so how about this one?
http://www.parts-express.com/tang-band- ... r--264-847
or this one:
http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-aud ... m--295-373
Then I would need a tweeter.Read on here the piezo's sound great...so what do you guys suggest?
I have an active crossover I would tune to the recommended crossover points.

Sure, using at least six of each per side. The same applies to tweeters.tomward1 wrote:Work from 100Hz,so how about this one?

Yep, Davids would be the right direction to go. Or, build SLAs to put on top.DJPhatman wrote:A THT is clearly not called for, in your stated case. To be honest, I think you really need to consider building a pair of Davids.

I also agree with DJP, David's would be the way to go.jimbo7 wrote:I was waiting for someone to say something about sub placement.

Mostly because, unless you have measured otherwise, there is very little material on either CD or vinyl (other than a reasonably limited amount of modern music), that contains 20Hz content.
Oh, and welcome to the forum

Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Re: New guy with question may have been asked and answered
So the two mids and lone tweet of the Davids perform as well as 6 of the above drivers?
2 DR250s, 2 27" Lab15 T-60s, 2 30" Neo Titan 39s, 1 Autotuba...and looking for more!

No, but they're not trying to keep up with a THT.Rich4349 wrote:So the two mids and lone tweet of the Davids perform as well as 6 of the above drivers?
