Hey forum how's it going? i happened to stumble upon Bill's site and forum because i wanted new PA speakers for my band, and im always looking for a better product at a lower cost, usually that means DIY or non commercial-one-size-fits-all products. So i plan on building two Jack 12 cabs (i got two 3012ho on a steal on ebay for ~150 a piece, also the guy was local so no shipping charges).
However im not the most inclined woodworker nor do i have any power tools to keep my cost at a minimum,so i might just go with the flat pack route. Im open to any tips on this build, and i am currently at my community college for an A.S degree in electronics so i know a fair amount (Im 23), so i wont have any trouble understanding specs or calculations on voltage, current, etc.
Just a few questions:
1)Has anyone made a DIY crossover for these speakers?
2) Do plans come with a flat pack purchase?

That's a bit more of a problem - you'll need them unless...r1c0rtez wrote:nor do i have any power tools to keep my cost at a minimum
Good planr1c0rtez wrote:,so i might just go with the flat pack route.

Errm.. everyone who has built one, I thinkr1c0rtez wrote:Im open to any tips on this build, and i am currently at my community college for an A.S degree in electronics so i know a fair amount (Im 23), so i wont have any trouble understanding specs or calculations on voltage, current, etc.

Hi r1c0rtez,
Welcome to the forum
Tell us more about your band;
Venue and crowd sizes etc. Genres played. And so on.
Do you mike everything up?
How much pack space do you have?
Also, what are you currently using?
The Jack 12's typically outperform commercial 15" cabs.
Depending on your answers above, the Jack 12's may not be the best thing to build, and it might be suggested to build subs too.
The passive crossovers are custom designed for all these cabs and are in the plans.
In the greater scheme of things, making up the crossovers is the least challenging part of a build IMHO...

Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Welcome to the forum!
A bit of a thread where someone built their own crossover.. http://billfitzmaurice.info/forum/viewt ... 7&start=15 Most build their own in-cab crossovers, from the plans, for between the woofers and the tweets.

We play a mix of hard alt rock/reggae ,we actually have 3 guitarists,a bassist, drummer, and two of us guitarists sing. we normally play bars with a decent sound system, but when we are closer to home the bars we play typically have really bad systems or no one knows how to run the mixer, they have it set for their own use mostly for over head background music. We never Mic anything up unless we play large venues with dedicated soundmen. So we only run vocals through the PA
We usually rely on the bar set up because our current system is extremely basic and decrepit an almost 10 year old behringer system ;power mixer (which is always prone to overheat) along with molded plastic cab 12" peavey speakers which is solely used for our practice now.
however,I recently purchased a used ep4000 power amp that will be used to bypass our current power mixer amp stage using pre outs until we buy a dedicated unpowered mixer. No overheating so far from our mixer.

Your plan to build Jacks sounds ideal then
