Thinking of getting a DEQ2496. What else do I need?
Thinking of getting a DEQ2496. What else do I need?
I found a DEQ2496 for $200 obo. Barely used but with no mic. I'm seriously debating getting this (although my wallet scream no). What else would I need, like cables, manuals, software, hardware? I'll be running 2 SLA's and 1 T24 for the time being. All 3 speakon connectors. Mixer is unbalanced RCA's, amps have bananas, 1/4" and speakons.

What are you using this setup for? That will determine what you need.
6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

Mainly for my own contentment, but parties and hopefully small gigs in the future. Mostly indoors, but I'd like to do some "drive-in" movies soon.

Buy it. That's a good deal.
You will need audio cables but go to monoprice.com or Amazon and get some cheap ones.
You don't need software and the manual is on-line for free. You can buy an RTA mic or another mic with a reasonably flat frequency response. I use an AKG C2000B which I know has a slight rise in high end response, so I just take that into account. I don't "auto-tune" my system, I read the response and adjust the EQ manually. More important if you are considering playing really loud is a system controller / digital crossover.

Get it.
Being able to RTA later on is very handy.
Is that the case?
What is the input connector for the amp?
Your chain would become mixer---> DEQ--->amplifier--->speaker cabs.
Later, after you have built sub 2, you then need to add DSP, and if you want to run your SLA's in stereo, another amp.
Your chain would then become mixer---> DEQ--->DSP--->amplifier--->speaker cabs.
At that stage, I would disconnect the inbuilt filters in your T24, as the DSP will do that task better...

This isn't relevant to having a DEQ.I'll be running 2 SLA's and 1 T24 for the time being. All 3 speakon connectors.
At least as far as the amp goes, seems you are talking about the output side of the amp.Mixer is unbalanced RCA's, amps have bananas, 1/4" and speakons.

+1, I got the Dayton one and it works great with my used DEQ.Tom Smit wrote:Here are a couple at Parts Express.

Re: Thinking of getting a DEQ2496. What else do I need?
I'm using the 1/4" input connectors with RCA-to-1/4" adapters since my mixer is RCA only. The amp is a Carvin DCM1000 and has all the most needed input connectors.Grant Bunter wrote:What is the input connector for the amp?
My next buy was another amp (till this came up). I thought the DEQ2496 does dsp, too? I'd like to keep the passive crossovers in the SLA's incase I ever use them for something else.Grant Bunter wrote:Your chain would become mixer---> DEQ--->amplifier--->speaker cabs.

FYI The mixer is connected to my laptop and turntables

You would need different leads to use the DEQ as that unit has XLR inputs and outputs.jimbo7 wrote: I thought the DEQ2496 does dsp, too? I'd like to keep the passive crossovers in the SLA's incase I ever use them for something else.
Find something like this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-2M-Stere ... 775&_uhb=1
at a store nearby, or local e-bay, etc, to go from mixer to DEQ.
It would also be better if you used XLR to XLR leads from the DEQ to the amp as XLR's lock in place, meaning no accidental disconnects possibly causing harm to your system.
No, the DEQ 2496 is not a DSP unit. Behringers version of DSP is the DCX2496.
Sure. Great idea.I'd like to keep the passive crossovers in the SLA's incase I ever use them for something else
I was saying bypass the filters in your T24's, not the SLA's...

Re: Thinking of getting a DEQ2496. What else do I need?
jimbo7, you need to be using an active crossover, not a passive one, from the SLA to the T24. You should make any passive crossover in the T24 defeat-able, so you can run your system properly. I think you should look for a DCX2496 first, and not worry about the DEQ2496 right now. The DCX2496 is way more important, as it has a limiter and crossover, plus enough EQ to make your system sound good.
I know money often seals the deal, but seriously, quality is an investment, not an expense... Grant Bunter

Re: Thinking of getting a DEQ2496. What else do I need?
Technically, DEQ2496 is a DSP (digital signal processor) device, it simply is limited to EQ, FBD, limiter and Delay.Grant Bunter wrote: No, the DEQ 2496 is not a DSP unit. Behringers version of DSP is the DCX2496.
Not all DSPs do the same thing. Something like the DCX or DRPA or Protea is a DSP too... but it has crossover slopes in addition to the delay and some EQ. Then you have something like the Symetrix Solus which, being fully open architecture, blurs the lines between a crossover DSP and a digital mixer.

A number of us, through various threads the OP has put up, have been suggesting he get a DSP unit such as the DCX or Driverack.
Sure, the DEQ has a limiter. It's a dynamic limiter (who's intended use is not brick wall limiting), and, while, at a stretch, one could argue that may be sufficient to limit, it's not what we ordinarily recommend for that purpose, right?
For simplicity I said the DEQ is not DSP.
Instead of, "The DEQ is not the required DSP for the job at hand. The DSP from Behringer for the job at hand is the DCX 2496."

The additional accuracy gained from the second explanation is worthwhile, IMHO.For simplicity I said the DEQ is not DSP.

Darn Behringer and their model numbers. Today I worked on a system with "DSP1100" units... which is a parametric EQ and Feedback destroyer combo. At least the DEQ and DCX are more descriptive.. DEQ = Digital EQ, and DCX = Digital Crossover (CX being one of those weird abbreviations when X taxes the place of a part of the word...)

I'm happy to recieve the information I greatly need on the subject(s), but sad this deal is not for me. Your help has saved me money and many sorrows.
I guess I'll look towards getting the DCX or PA+, instead.
