Re: Pono music player
I think byacey might have brought up an interesting point here that could have something to do with it....
"Cross talk between channels on a CD is far lower than what can be achieved with vinyl, so better stereo imaging is possible."
This caused a couple of memories to pop up:
Remember the big Polk floorstanders that had pairs of drivers side by side? (SDA-SRS)
They were done that way to play around with the spatial imaging. I too, prefer the imaging of vinyl and the trig. induced crosstalk may have something to do with it. One way to prove it (or at least do a proper A-B comparison) would be to record the phono output to CD and see if it's still there. I am not able to do it myself right now because my Garrard and my BSR are packed away unfortunately, right next to my Roberts and Philco open reel decks......
Just my non-scientific two cents here, guys. Don't call me a smoking duck for trying!

The Irony is that Neil Young's new album was recorded using 1947 record technology.

He's also encouraging others to do the same. So much for raising the bar on audio quality.

Hmm . . With a life of preforming, and at 68 years of age, he probably can't hear anything above 8k.CoronaOperator wrote:The Irony is that Neil Young's new album was recorded using 1947 record technology.

Neil Young being concerned about sound is as silly as fish worrying about getting wet.

My 21 year old daughter is totally into vinyl. She's confiscated all my old stuff, my brother's Technics and AR turntables, preamp, etc. and all her college roomates at their townhouse are into it too. I've warned her about feedback sitting on top of the table tuba but so far she hasn't had any issues.
I think the kids are starting to realize there's better than mp3 players.

I think his needle has jumped out of the groove. Is that what the Pono music player is going to sound like? I can certainly see everybody dumping their mp3 players for that.CoronaOperator wrote:The Irony is that Neil Young's new album was recorded using 1947 record technology.

I still say he should invest in pitch correction if he insists on caterwauling in public. l
