Hi Guys
A link to a project I recently finished - rewinding pick-ups from a 1980 Rhodes 54 piano (54 keys). The link is below if you want to check it out (it's on our NZ bass player site).

Great job Jono
I have long liked the sound of 80's Rhodes...

Good on you, Jono! What a mate to your Uncle-in-law, too. I would have been petrified to even open a classic Rhodes, let alone unwind and rewind the pickups. Hats off to you, mate!
I know money often seals the deal, but seriously, quality is an investment, not an expense... Grant Bunter

Great skills. Just one quick (probably dumb) question:
You mentioned that the pickups are wired in series - how does the piano know which key is being pressed? Maybe you mean a different 'series' to what I'm thinking (I'm thinking the 'bottom' pickup connector connects to the 'top' of the next one and so on). Could you possibly quickly explain
Thanks.

Thank you all!
Hope that helps and I got that right!
It doesn't need to. Just like an electric guitar doesn't know what strings you pluck. In the piano each key has a hammer that hits it's own "tine" that vibrates in front of its own pickup. The vibrating tine affects the magnetic field of the pickup which changes the current through the coil. Keys hit at the same time just add to the signal.escapemcp wrote:how does the piano know which key is pressed
