I just bought some stone texture paint at Lowes, by a company called American Accents . I will be trying it out on some test samples before hitting the DR's, I'll let you know how it goes. The one thing that makes me nervous - there is no approximate coverage area listed and the stuff was $8/can. If one can only covers 12" inches, this could be an expensive way around carpet. It does look durable though. I will definietly prime it first...

You will need to put a finish on top of it. Unless formulations have changed, texture spray paints require a top coat of clear finish for durability.

It does look pretty good. I finished an autotuba with some, so it matched the trunk spatter paint.
