Let me begin by saying that it was my quest to find subs that equaled or bettered my 4 Bassmaxx B Zero subs that I was tired of lugging around that landed me here in the land of Bill.
The 4 Bassmaxx were my standard for comparing subs. They were the only subs I’d experienced that could go way, way past uncomfortable. They could vibrate your body in such a way that I’m sure could be used for torture because you just wanted to make it stop if abused. My soundman seemed to think this was hilarious but I used to get pissed. They were also the only subs that could make it snow, heavy, if you had an acoustic tiled ceiling as one of the clubs did.
I sold them because they were too big and clumsy for me to move by myself, they were very expensive, the McCauley 6174’s were very expensive, and I really wanted to build something myself and David Lee wasn’t giving up the plans. A great worldcalss subwoofer, but “not quite” for this Goldie Locks.
Enter the T36. Things just got a little bit better. I have built and installed 2 T36 30’s loaded with dual Definimax 12’s at a local mid sized venue. They have both local and national acts so you know the size I’m talking about. While I’ll be building 2 more for the room, it’s more of a novelty “just to see” and “because we can” rather than needing them. The 2 can more than carry the room fine and make external items on the building rattle, shake and vibrate. And that’s one on each side of the stage, ala taboo style (don’t try this at home kids). They will absolutely crush you. Huge fat low notes. They actually sent me looking for other subs as I was convinced “obviously” the house subs were on in addition, how happy I was to see they were off and it was just my two T36’s goin’ to town.
The 2 T36’s are just about on par with the 4 Bassmaxx. 4 dual 12 equipped T36’s would easily outperform the 4 Bassmaxx.
Dare I say I’m a happy camper!
