The journey begins.. 16 T60's and 12 DR280's!!
Re: The journey begins.. 16 T60's and 12 DR280's!!
exactly. I recently had to cut a hole in the chamber of one of my t48s (front mounted) because a hurricane nut that was heavily epoxied still spun.... patched it up and cant even tell it happened.

Anyway, glad to hear you were able to effect a repair and it's not noticable. Did you use one of those newfangled oscillating blade tools to make the cut?

Asking b/c I'm about to start making sawdust on my 4, T48 build and plan on using Harley's trick. I.E. small screw wedged inbetween the t-nut prongs and epoxy over the whole thing.

It was a hurricane nut, and I didnt have access to a drill press, so I was unable to screw a hole to anchor it with a screw. It was installed with plenty of epoxy and drawn into the hole with a bolt, and left for 24 hours, so I was very upset when it spun (8 hours before a major event). I drilled some 3/4 inch holes in the top with a spade bit and took it out with a jigsaw. installed flanges on the hole with 1/4 inch ply, put the original piece back in with A LOT of PL, and filled the 3/4 inch holes with pl. chiseled it down after the show, sanded and used plasticwood. duratex and it was gone.

Just use a hand drill. Take a piece of scrap, drill a hole big enough for the nut to sit in. Drill a hole in the lip with a hand drill. It's stable and works fine.sine143 wrote: It was a hurricane nut, and I didnt have access to a drill press, so I was unable to screw a hole to anchor it with a screw.

Wow, 8 hours before a show...you pulled if off though!sine143 wrote:miked wrote:sine143 wrote:exactly. I tried hurricane nuts ONCE. It was the most miserable experience of my speaker building life. 4 of the 8 spun on me as I was torquing down the bolts for the first time. This was a long time ago, so there was no "Harley Trick." I've haven't used anything but t-nuts for 15+ years now. I've never done the Harley Trick before, but I've never built a sub as complicted as a Titan before either. Last thing I want is watching weeks' worth of work go down the drain b/c of a stupid 5-cent t-nut.

Bob: Another positive vote for the reverse-curve. I think it looks great and will look even better once you paint the cabs and get the grill on there.

Every single time I check on your thread I find myself pretty much drooling! Whether its of your endless cache of quality tools, or your prowess in building with them, maybe its just the sheer magnitude of your rapidly forming fleet of BFM Big Boys.

You have absolutely ruined those cabs. You have no option but to start again. I'll send you a disposal address in the UK for you to get rid of them.
