Anybody have a reasonable source for liability insurance (USA) for operating a PA system? I'm providing PA part time for a couple bands but have a potential gig requiring a llliablity polcy. Been all over google only to be rejected b/c the company doesnt insure non-performers, or wont insure DJs ( I do that sometimes, too) Or they want the entire annual premium up front. Please only respond if you have experience with an actual reasonable carrier.
Thanks.

Re: liability insurance
I'm in Canada, but I'm sure things are very similar in the U.S.
Many insurances companies offer liability insurance for businesses. Just ensure the insurance agent is very clear on what your business activities entail, and that you have sufficient coverage for any potential incidents / claims. You may be able to get a temporary policy coverage that is event specific.
In 2009, there was a stage collapse at the Big Valley Jamboree here in Alberta. A few people were killed and the 3 production companies involved were fined. You may not be doing shows on this scale, but there is always the potential for disaster due to unforseen circumstances.

Re: liability insurance
Keep searching, someone out there will have what you need.
I had a number of offerings as a muso, but I wanted to cover sound engineer as well.
I happened across a site here that offered both for the less than everywhere else wanted as a performer alone!
Not sure if they cover Australia only, but if you want their name and site, shoot me a PM...

Re: liability insurance
Farmer's offered me a $1M umbrella policy, including equipment coverage up to $20K, for $500 per year. Main stips that affected me were no clubs/bars unless they were private events, no raves or other unlicensed gatherings, and gear coverage was invalid if I setup in the rain.
The referral to Farmer's came from my primary insurer, USAA.
WeDJ offers a similar program for about $300, but I don't have any experience with them. I'm going with the trust factor of USAA and Farmer's and paying the additional premium.

Re: liability insurance
I would be inclined to up the coverage amount if you use truss, overhead rigging, or even boxes on stands. Usually this is where the potential trouble starts. God forbid any incidents, but should someone be seriously injured, you may be looking in excess of a 1M lawsuit.
Usually you can keep the premium at a reasonable amount if you have a high deductible, say $1 or 2 thousand dollars. This way the insurer knows you won't be putting in a claim for anything unless it's a serious claim.

Re: liability insurance
I got mine through the vendor at WEDJ.com. Prior to that is was through the vendor at AMDJA. I believe those are specifically for DJ events however, but the carriers may still have a product available for what you'd need.
