I don't need any additional chemicals to make me crazy! I just like the look, I think it could catch on in fashion.bzb wrote: You need to stop doing that or you won't keep up with the rest of us crazies.

Respectfully Sir, I think you may have sniffed too much Bondo.

Seriously though, you must have added too much water. They way I mix it it sets up in about 10 minutes, just like Bondo. It gets "rock hard." It does not shrink. In every way I can think of, Bondo is more of a PITA.
I do use Bondo type products alot as I have restored over a dozen 1950's and 1960's era automobiles. I live in an era where old cars are "rust buckets" so I have probably gone through at least 20 gallons of the stuff. I hate the shit though, but for automobile restoration it is your only choice.
For PA cabinets that are being covered with DuraTex, you absolutely don't need any of the properties that Bondo excels at, there are many better choices. Hell, PlasticWood would even be a better choice.
Back to the VOC content, I was resistive to this when we first started experimenting with these products. Some of the adhesives weren't as strong and required us to change some of our techniques. But after using theses products for a few years, I realize I am felling a lot better physically. No more nasty headaches, body aches, etc.. I sleep a lot better and feel more alive. At some point you will start thinking about your own mortality and realize that you have likely done many stupid things in your life you can't undo. Be careful out there!

I felt like this when I started drinking more water and going rock climbing... So I suggest to others that they do those too.Dan_Hoppin wrote:But after using theses products for a few years, I realize I am felling a lot better physically. Dan really makes a good point though.
People use all these chemicals their whole lives then wonder why they get cancers. When I first used Bondo I was surprised at the strong chemical odor, so I used a 3M vapour filter respirator when applying it. Not sure if its for that, but it hopefully couldn't hurt. Moral is take care of your body, and if something smells "fishy" (literally or figuratively speaking), its probably not so good for you.
In the past we didn't think about things like this, we just needed to get a job done so we did what we had to do. Nowadays we have the knowledge and tools to do things more safely, so why not utilize them.

Say NO to working "Un-Protected" with pretty much every bloody thing!
My dads best mate, made surfboards his whole life. Born in the late 1940's he still managed to avoid drugs in the 60's and 70's. Even wore the appropriate P.P.E. ; once the information regarding polyester resin's was made. This still wasn't good enough. He died over 10 years ago under 60, never even made retirement. R.I.P. J.P. Brain Tumors knocked him down in a period of less than 12 months after detection.
Today at work, breaking OH&S policies to protect me, I cut through an old concrete slab with a 9 inch grinder - dry. Wearing the appropriately P - rated dust mask, I was horrified upon lifting the slab to see that some shonky
person had buried offcuts of asbestos directly under it.
I pretty much ground through 1.5 metres of asbestos sheet making a plume of not only concrete dust but lethal Asbestos. Spreading high into the sky and totally covering me.
My dust mask wasn't rated for asbestos, once again the tradesman loses due to the mistakes of our forefathers.
Will it kill me tomorrow? Unlikely.
When my offspring (yet to be made) are just reaching their prime? Potentially.
I've already developed acute respiratory abnormalities, occupation related. Asthma like symptoms. Only friggin 31! I'm all for low V.O.C. and every bit of P.P.E. available to us.
I must apologise for the rant. Don't even have a moral to my story. Life is short enough, lets not make our passion cause it to be shorter - treat everything as potentially lethal, who knows what information will come to light twenty years from now.
